With first-person shooters I tend to keep the vibration on for a single player campaign and turn it off for multiplayer.

Does anyone else think that having a still controller is an advantage playing online?

For the first time in years I turned vibration on for LA Noire, because its pretty much necessary if you dont want the game to be insanely tedious.
Apart from that though i've never seen any real point in it other than to annoy me

I always have the vibration on , i think it adds a bit of stress and depth to a game ( star fox 64 with the rumble pack was AMAZING ). i like having the controller shake when shit blows up . Its less usefull for rpgs but i dont see a reason to turn it off , guess i really never though about it . And for multiplayer , a still controller is for casuals ( lol joke ), i like having vibration on , lets me know when im being shot at.

I leave it on at all times, mainly because I can't be bothered to turn it off. As for whether or not it has an advantage for online play, I'm betting it makes no difference.

I keep it on all the time. It helps me know when I've been hit in stuff in games that don't make it obvious.

I always keep it on. I like to feel like I am shooting a gun, not watching a pair of hands shooting a gun. It also help when u get hit and that kind of thing.

I always play with out.

1: I get the feeling that my controller will live longer with out it's internals getting shaking to bits.

2: No amount of controller shaking will even get close to represent what's happening in a game anyway.

Example:

Shoot a gun: rumble
Get shot / hit with sword / otherwise take damage: Same rumble as before
Drive a car of the road into some gravel: Again, same kind of rumble

get my point?

I don't own a controller, nor a console for that matter.
However at the times I've used consoles that had controllers with the vibration feature turned on, I quite liked it.

I keep it on. Most games don't fully utilize the vibration function but MGS4 (bad as it was as an actual game) took full advantage of the function and even had a vibration director or something. Though, I guess the Dualshock 3 was kinda made for MGS4 so the function had to be important.

Nowadays, I barely ever notice it unless nothing's going on on-screen and it just adds to the tension... or my controller's on a desk and the vibe is loud as fuck.

My brother hates it, I enjoy it.

I've never taken it off, I think it's great. It really allows big guns to feel big and explosions impactful.

I keep it on.

Especially for shooters it just adds a little bit of "feeling" into shooting something in the face.

I always have it on. It adds to the depth of the game IMO. Never really annoys me and often I don't even notice it anymore

Always off. It's just a bit of buzzing, nothing special and I find it annoying after a while. Having force feedback (with actual force) on wheels or joysticks and stuff is cool, just rumbling isn't.

I turn it on for games when it's not going to happen often, because then it's a nice addition to the experience. But if the controller's going to vibrate like hell every couple minutes when I'm trying to do something, I turn it off so I don't hit the wrong button at a crucial moment and screw myself over.

I keep it on. It doesn't really bother me unless I'm playing with the volume down low and the vibrations are kinda loud. But I don't generally play a lot of action-intensive games, so I'm not likely to permanently lose feelings in my fingertips due to use of the controller.

And I like the rumble in most games. I mean, it's not remotely realistic in any way, but physical sensations in the hands does make things a bit more "immersive" when playing games. And it's so ubiquitous that if I didn't get a mild jolt in the controller when firing a gun of some description, I'd sort of feel kinda weird.

I remember reading an article about how long term use with vibrating controllers was causing health problems for kids, back when they were a new thing. And back when I was living on pocket money, I ended up playing with a third party controller that made me think "Okay, maybe it is possible." When Psycho Mantis told me to put my controller on the floor, he proceeded to throw the ************ across the room.

Sort of related - I remember, back when I read print-magazines about computer games, and they advertised these weird vest type things that promised realistic sensations when you were hit. And I was actually kinda curious about it, even though I knew it wouldn't work as promised because, for fuck's sake, it was compatible with the Playstation and I had official peripherals for that console that weren't supported by more than one game. Like the awesome wheel controller that came with the special edition of Ridge Racer Type 4 (the greatest racing game ever released).

But even though I've met loads of people who remember those advertisements, I don't know anyone who's bought one and I am still really curious about them, but I'd be worried that I'd end up dazed, confused, and constantly shaking about. Like Ozzy.

Always on, just never found it distracting or throwing me off my game in anyway. Sometimes it can be helpful, letting you know just how hard you're being hit.
