The phrase "bros before hos" basically labels all women as "hos" and it's offensive, and if you can't see that then shame on you.
Depends on whether you take 'bros before hos' to mean:

A: Men before women

Or

B: Friends before romantic/sexual interests.

If it's A then 'hos' refers to all women.

Hint: It's not A.

Plus there's the question of whether hos in this context actually means 'prostitute'. I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Meanings shift around a lot. Isn't language fun?

I mean, Adam Sessler looks like a pandering little whiner in the context of this article. I don't have anything against him personally, but one man shouldn't wield this kind of power. The internet is rather famous for giving people like this power though, I suppose.
the only power he has is the power that we give him. he simply said that the name of the trophy offended him, and voicing his opinion is well within his right. but then, because gamers cant handle words like sexism without getting defensive, it exploded. my impression of his review was, "a decent gow game that doesnt hold up to the standards of the previous ones, and one aspect that may offend some people." but as soon as he mentioned it i also though "uh oh, he brought up sexism in gaming. this will not end well for him"

not surprising the even made the trophy considering the horrendously misogynistic overtones of the series. At least someone noticed how stupid it was. Kinda like the Dead Island trophy
The God of War series isnt misogynistic in the slightest bit. Kratos hates everybody equally and in no way singles out women.

As for the trophy name the God of War series has always thrown in "frat boy" phrases and silly movie references as trophies.

No, you're beating the shit out of one of the Furies.
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, it's safe to say it's a duck.
In context, you're beating up a woman who is as every bit as violent and murderous as you are. She intends to capture and torture you mentally and physically forever because you will not serve a man who with her help, tricked you into killing your own family. Furthermore, she's letting you do it so you can be fooled into thinking you've won.
Where was this?

Edit: Kratos gets out of his bond with Ares and escaped. I'd call that a win over the Furies who only exist to punish people who break their oaths to the Gods.
But he had to kill them to do it. There's a whole backstory regarding all of it. The Furies are basically female versions of Kratos in terms of sociopathic and murderous tendencies. And even Kratos doesn't sadistically torture his enemies. They do. Kratos has done many things but he never made a home out of a Titan while they were still alive.

The Furies are based on women. They look like women. They're women.
That's like saying Gaia counts as a woman. They're clearly not human. Yes their faces and voice are feminine but they have legs growing out of their back.
She does? She's a female personifcation. Father Time is a male personification. Santa is male. Yes, the furies have extra legs, but they're still largely female. A literally can't understand this objection.

One minute feminists insist they are not special snowflakes that need protection (which is right) but the next there is a huge bruhah over a pixelated angry dude killing a pixelated daemon thing and getting a meme as the achievement title.

Feminism confuses me.
Show me the "huge bruhah". Because it seems to be Sessler, and this thread. That's nothing. Stop using feminist's supposed hysteria as an excuse to dismiss their complaints.

Enough of bruhah to get it patched out, this isn't the only thread or site discussing it. The patch was one of the weeks biggest stories and its grabbed a lot of blog and forum space.

Cute. Guess what, it still doesn't change the fact the almost EVERY major female in that series is either A) Victimized B) Objectified C) Overly sexualized or D) some combination of the three. It's hard to say that the game is equal what with how many times women are reduced to fucktoy minigames or juvenile eye candy and that's when they're not being killed for no reason other than to cement Kratos as the juvenile power fantasy he is.

Every single major Character is either,

-Brutalized
-Victimized
-Sexualized (yes muscular men in sarongs is sexualizaton, some men and women would certainly consider them attractive)
-Objectified (yes having a character simply as a means of pointing the way or moving the plot forward is objectification)

God of War is an over the top power fantasy, thats the point of it but it never singles out women as a target. As for the mini games, well lots of games include sex and TV series like Game of Thrones and the Spartacus series are packed full of sex and nudity. God of War is the same.

Guess what? Humans find sex appealing in entertainment.

This is a bad sign, because it just means that people are going to be encouraged to do more trolling like this when they want some attention or a platform.

I find it truely disturbing that a bunch of faux-liberals trying to get attention force a game change, when huge amounts of the gaming community couldn't get the "Mass Effect 3" ending changed when it desperatly needed it in a real sense rather than just being an attention grabbing exercise.

For those who don't really understand the issue, there is no real problem with women being beaten up in games. That's just how it goes when women fight, sometimes they lose. In this case you had a legendary female powerhouse (Medusa) challenging Kratos, and it ended pretty much like you'd expect. Kratos is pretty much equal oppertunity when
brutalizing anyone who gets in his way. The entire situation is perfectly straightforward, fits the series, and there
is nothing wrong with it. The "achievement" is simply a bit of irreverant politically incorrect humor, using a bit of "bro talk" dismissively in response to what was an epic fight.

To be honest for those few people complaining about "OMG, a female on the receiving end of violence" let me put it to you this way... that's equality on action. We have our action girls running around now, and they aren't being patronized by being limited to only fighting other girls (as per the old "cat fight" tropes, where the bad girl will always wind up fighting and being defeated by a hero's love interest so he can maintain his purity in not striking a girl). Women are being pretty much treated like anyone else in video games, it's what people crusaded for, and people need to get used to it. Girls losing is the flip side of girls kicking butt, it goes both ways.

Ironically, it seems to me that people complaining about this scene and achievement seriously, are actually some of the most un-progressive people out there. I mean what, should Medusa have been limited to staying in the kitchen making Sandwiches where she wouldn't get hurt?

Interestingly, I'd also point out that like any enemy in God Of War if the player isn't as quick on the buttons as he needs to be, she is also fully capable of killing Kratos (and is trying to) which kind of invalidates any complaints about the material itself... and being a bit irreverant about it with the achievement is no big thing.

The reason why this is lib-trolling (people trolling with a liberal issue knowing it will get attention) is that plenty of things like this have gone on for years without getting attention. What's more there have been some pretty irreverant bits with female characters brutalizing guys and one liners and such being made about it as well. You'll notice our "crusaders" here didn't seem to be lined up to complain about Bayonetta being sexist against men, people got into the whole "OMG, what a piece of eye candy" thing, but let's be honest... she's even more needlessly brutal and cruel than Kratos is. Kratos might slam someone's head in a door 15-20 times, or pulverize faces or whatever else, Bayoneta will conjure torture devices from thin air just to brutalize her enemies while obviously having a great time doing it, as opposed to Kratos who is usually pretty grim and rage filled during the entire thing, his brutality usually being more of a "excesses in the heat of combat" rather than sitting back giggling while someone gets deconstucted by a floating torture device when the enemy could have been just as easily put down with a couple of bullets at that point. :)

Man, we complain about the tiniest fucking things.

The revised joke was funnier, so I don't think anything of value has been lost. Though in all honesty - if you only get offended by God of War's tongue-in-cheek graphic violence when it's directed at a female monster, you have a perspective issue.

I can probably go find a dozen achievement titles from various games that are equally tasteless riffs on the "you just stomped something" vibe, but it feels like because this one involved a spider-lady, it's suddenly offensive. Who cares? This is a game series where you carry around a disembodied head to use it as a flashlight. I didn't even think it would be worth mentioning in a review unless you were trying to use it to support a greater point about how crass and childlike God of War games are.
