Wait. You haven't played Psychonauts yet? What the fuck of course you should get that above Skyrim.

Depends on what you want. Psychonauts, although fantastic, is short and pretty much has non-existent replay value (unless you really like scavenger hunts). Skyrim is a massive MMORPG game with huge amounts of replay available but a comparatively weak story.

Anyone who tells you one is clearly the right choice is an idiot.

Personally, I'd advise Skyrim. I hit 100+ hours with my first character. Then I got bored and said to myself "I'm going to make a new one." About 80 hours later I have 3 characters and absolutely no desire to stop playing.

The other games you listed are okay (Psychonauts is exceptional if a bit short, I didn't love or hate the Witcher overmuch, it just sort of... was and Just Cause I found resoundingly unpleasant)

Bugs do hinder the game somewhat but as a long time Elder Scrolls lover I'm essentially immune to having them bother me at this point.

I can't speak for Psychonauts, but Skyrim would be the best deal. $60 for a game that has huge open world, self generating quests that can go on indefinitely and the ability to punch dragons in the face and eat their souls. Just Cause 2 also has a big open world, but it lacks depth and I got tired of it pretty quickly.

Let's solve this with MATH!

P = Price
AGT = Average Gameplay Time
V = Value

The equation will be:

(AGT / P) = V

So if a game costs 10 dollars, and you get 10 hours of gameplay, that's a value of 1.

Psychnauts: (16.5 / 20) = 0.825
Just Cause 2: (20 / 10) = 2
Skyrim: (200 / 60) = 3.3333

Yes, 200 hours is probably underestimating the amount of time you'll want to play this game. I just finished my second playthrough . . never really finished everything in either playthrough, but I still want to start a third game.

It's seriously, the best game ever. Not even the Assassin's Creed series stands up, and I called Assassin's Creed 2 a perfect game.

More like an over estimate.

Anyways, get Psychonauts.

I would honestly recommend Dark Souls to anyone and everyone, over Skyrim. Don't get me wrong, Skyrim was fun, but in my honest opinion, Dark Souls is such a better game, with just as much, if not MORE replayability.

Not every game has to be played for 200-300+ hours for it to be considered good. I'm quite the contrary, because I haven't sunk even 100 hours into Skyrim, nor do I want to sink that much into Skyrim. I don't have enough fun with it to sink that much time into that game. I could say the exact same thing with Dark Souls, by your logic, considering I've sunk maybe even more than 450 hours into it divided between 4 different 90+ hour characters, and several more 30-40 hour characters that I deleted.

If you could, please don't claim such things like they are fact, as "best game ever" is quite subjective.

No game is a must-buy.

Having said that, Skyrim is probably one of the best values for your gaming dollar, if you enjoy the genre as a whole.

I bought it. It's fun because it has a huge open world to explore like Oblivion but with a more casual leveling system and better character interaction this time (people look and speak more naturally). There's alot to do also. If you're not getting pc games though why not just rent it?

Hahaha, yeah. A combination of relentless press coverage and my own sort of current indifference has kept me from coming back. I'll explain the latter below...

Interesting. Why?

What has happened, or not happened, that has turned you off the game?
Nothing at all, actually! The game is actually great (my soapboxing about bugs and minor personal preferences aside) it's just that I'm like this with every giant Bethesda RPG. I get caught in the hype, I get the game, put some time into it, then put it down for a while to play other games. I won't pick them back up until a substantial game drought happens and then is when I sink the hours into them. The exact same thing happened with Oblivion, and is now happening with my current Morrowind playthrough.

Skyrim came at a time when a bunch of other games that have a narrower focus came out. Assassin's Creed and Zelda came out and I knew right away what I want out of those games. Skyrim is so open and vast that I simply had no clue what I wanted to do, so I logically went through doing missions and found myself thoroughly dissatisfied with how insipid my creativity was. Then the game froze mid-save (autosave, thank god, but imagine if it had been my solid save...) and since then I haven't really touched it much.

I hope to get back into it soon now that the hype has died and the memes are fading, but right now I'm playing the hell out of my 3DS, classes just began, and my girlfriend wanted to watch me play through The Whole Bloody Affair of No More Heroes.

When someone says "it's the best (insert thing) ever", it's generally understood to be communicating an opinion. I have enough respect for people's intelligence to be able to know the difference and not take everyone who says something along those lines as expressing objective fact.

At no point did I claim that length of game play by itself made it a better game. I specifically said value, as in you will get more entertainment from a quantitative standpoint for your dollar. If you are on a limited budget, it is generally better to get a game that will last you longer.

As for my estimate, you may not have sunk in that much time, but we're speaking averages here. Given that the game never ends, and unlike other sandbox games it is designed to played continually, virtually never running out of content, my estimate was rather conservative. Over two playthroughs I have sunk in over 200 hours, and in each playthrough I've gone through less than half the content, and were it not for other games I need to get through so I don't fall behind I'd have already started a third playthrough. A SINGLE playthrough of all the content getting to level 81 is likely to go 300 hours. Add in that there are numerous styles of game play and choices to make, the fact that your choices would require you to do at least two playthroughs to see all the content, and 200 hours becomes a laughably low estimate. My original contention that the better value is in Skyrim remains valid.

Skyrim is $60, not $100, making it 0.6. You only played it for forty hours? You must not have gotten much done, or tried to rush through it. Unless you mixed up your variables and somehow paid $40 and played for 100 hours, which would make it 2.5.

No, it's a gross underestimate. I've gone through two playthroughts (which would be a requirement to do all the content since some quests are mutually exclusive to others) and have sunk in over 200 hours, and I've still seen probably only half the content. Psychonauts might be a great game, but it can't beat the value of Skyrim.

If you'd have asked me a few weeks ago, I'd have said get Skyrim...now, not so much. It just isn't that much fun to be honest.

Depends on your preferences. The first 10 hours of Just Cause 2 were the most fun I've had for a loooooooooong time, plus, on Xbox you can get the game for less than 10 pounds, about the same on Steam I guess. Actually, here's an idea if you use PC, get a Publishers pack on Steam for as close to $60.

I haven't played Skyrim yet so I can't defend it's quality or gameplay, but if it's anything remotely like Oblivion, you could easily spend 100+ hours on it.
