At this point I feel like not playing skyrim out of spite, even though Jim Sterling said the game proves wrong serveal things of the industery (drm, mutliplayer, dlc that gives rather then adds.)

is was outshined by cod 7 i belive, which made a billion dollers in one day less then Avatar did, that is what the industery will look at, a billion dollers made in one day less then Avatar, rather then Skyrim.

But I would recommand swtor, weeks of enjoyment plus i meant some rather nice people online, also bounty hunter rules!

of if ye can't pay the sub, I would get Deux Ex HR, my game of the year.no matter what any Skyrim fan says.

P.s. I don't hate skyrim I just dislike that everyone treating it like a second coming, no offense to those who love it.

To be fair, its like the bronies vs pony haters, one side overly shows they love for something, those who dislike hate those that over show their love.

Here's what you should do. Go on youtube, find a "Let's Play Skyrim" with a person who's voice doesn't annoy you too much. I reccomend Yogscast or Wowcrendor (although neither are very far). TeamUDF is also fair.

Watch the first two episodes to see the intro area, then watch like episode 8 and 24, or some two-three random numbers. This way, you see what the beginning of the game looks like, the options for character development (creation doesn't matter, but seeing how leveling works is good), the basic start of the plot, and the 'status quo' for actual gameplay.

It'll take you about 40 minutes, but if $60 is hard for you to come by, I'd definitely recommend doing this.


Also, do not go into this game/video thinking "it'll be the best thing ever". It's not. Just ask yourself, "will I have fun playing this?"

Get Dark Souls if you have a console. Otherwise, browse Steam for some older games. I've bought things like Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, X-COM and Penumbra for about $5 each, or $7 for the X-COM series.

Well, while Just Cause 2 and Psychonauts are amazing, there's something that you should consider. While his milk is amazing, Psychonauts currently feels a bit dated. Playing it for the first time now will give you the distinct impression you really should have played it a few years ago, to get the best possible experience. Now, you'll just be thinking "well, it very well received at the time, but now, technical capabilities limit it, and it's good, but not as good as it would have been back then."

Just Cause 2, comparatively, is still graphically there, with the gameplay that holds up, but you're going to find yourself positively hating it every time most of the characters speak. There is no dodging this. Talking to characters makes your ears near bleed. This is countered by the fact that you can tether a tank to a jumbo jet, get in the tank while it's being flown around, and release the tether while in mid air, only to be surprised when the tank mysteriously bounces upon hitting the ground. If you want to see some of the glory of Just Cause 2, look no further than some of the crazy fun you can have:

Skyrim, though, is a different animal. There's so much to do, and more or less however you'd like to do it. Just Cause 2 has "Shoot stuff", "tether things together", "make stuff explode" or possibly "race things" as things to do, amidst few other examples. And yes, there's plenty of things to do things too, but it quickly becomes a bit of a grind. Skyrim continues to feel fresh. Mostly. So, it's up to you. All are great games, definitely worth playing. Skyrim will undoubtedly be around for at least a year or so, with DLC going to be released, while Just Cause 2 just has some ancillary, unnecessary cars and guns which on the whole aren't used that much, in my experience. Psychonauts is a complete experience, and is fun, but personally, lasted me the shortest amount of time among the three.

Get Skyrim. In my experience it has exceeded all expectations I had of it, this coming from someone that played Morrowind to death and thought Oblivion was pretty mediocre.

Also if you're willing to put the time and effort into modding the game will be fresh for a VERY LONG time.

These guys are based in the UK so shipping here can take a few weeks, but the games are MUCH cheaper and shipping is free. Also not region locked at all; I bought Skyrim from here and it worked perfectly with my steam account.

Depends. Do you normally like Bethesda's games, even without mods? Then you'd probably enjoy Skyrim, regardless of anything like bad writing or bugs. If not, I'd start with something with more mod support, like Oblivion. That's not even that expensive right now. However, it takes a very specific mindset to properly enjoy a Bethesda game, and since their philosphy is that bugs that are funny enough don't need to be fixed, it's not hard to be jerked out of that mindset...

Psychonauts is definitely good, though.

To be honest, the reason I was kind of slow with buying the game is that I play all genres except RPGs and RTSs most of the time. I have little to no experience, and I wanted to know if the game was good enough to buy even without knowing a single damn thing about the storyline or fantasy RPGs in general.

You will get lost in your first hour - a vague idea where to go, no idea what you're doing.
You will eventually find your way to civilization, start making friends, and slowly make your way up in the world. Soon enough (2-5 hours in) you will stumble on the main quest, and from then on forward you will have about twenty different stories and threads to follow at any moment.

You will come around bends in the road and be struck by just how beautiful Skyrim can be. You will get caught in a snowstorm with almost no visibility, finally stumbling on some form of shelter. You will make your way deep underground to reclaim ancient treasures. All that in an area comprising approximately 1/50 of the game world, if that.

If any of that sounds appealing, I suggest you buy the game. I'd also suggest you buy it on Amazon ($50.99 right now) and buy Psychonauts as well, if you can. 'Cause while Skyrim is not to be missed, Psychonauts is a marvelous little gem in its own right.

Thanks for the good feedback. I'll admit, I've been wanting a fulfilling experience like that with a game. From videos of the towns and whatnot (with the exception of the stupid arrow-in-the-knee videos) I kind of got a early-Harry Potter-game Hogwarts vibe. It even had the cauldrons and the music to beat; except I guess you couldn't walk up and kill people in Harry Potter, or else those games would've been a little more interesting in the hallways.

That does sound pretty convincing, the idea of a environment that changed for you to work around; and the bugs won't bother me since I have an Xbox (and the poor sony guys got stuck with the game-killing bugs), so I'll probably just have to deal with having conversations with people floating 5 feet in the air. Still sounds like it's worth it.

I personally love skyrim. Its not the best game but it do really enjoy it. skyrim really isn't for everyone. some people don't like the huge amounts of dialogue some hate the bugs and many other reasons. Its very hit or miss. if you haven't played batman or portal I would recommend those over skyrim but personally I think it was worth the money.

Listen don't take strict reviewers word for games that they say one needs to buy.
If you find a game that has similar things you like such as exploring, fighting, roleplaying or even the interface, you should take notice of it and could possibly buy it.
I find Skyrim to be a very enjoyable a fun experience that has drained countless hours form my life as fallout 3 and NV have, mostly because i love how they work.

An arguement can certainly be made for Psychonauts, but not really for Just Cause 2. You can do damn near everything in JC2 in about 70-80 hour, but only if you're insanely obsessive compulsive, and even then you still prolly wont be having fun. I'd cut that number in less than half for a reasonable play-through.

Skyrim, on the other hand, I've been playing now for 160+ hours and could still prolly do a bit more. When DLC and content mods start coming out, i fully expect that number to double.
