I'm currently in Japan for a holiday and I would like to take this opportunity to purchase a game that I wouldn't be able to get otherwise. Unfortunately, I'm not very knowledgeable in the area of Japanese exclusive games so I would like some recommendations. Please recommend any cool, interesting or weird Japanese exclusive games for PS3, PS4 or the vita. Cheers!

IF you like arena fighters, Any of the Gundam Vs. series are good, well crafted and fun to play

You can also try Blazblue Central Fiction in Arcades tomorrow as well

If you can read Japanese, there's any entry in the Super Robot Wars franchise. It has pretty much every giant robot in it
Including that one. Yeah, and that other one.

That's actually out in the USA too. There's cabinets with it in south California!

Well, I can't help you on the recommends, but I can of course warn you about regional locks on products. Something I found out is that, assuming you can't work around that on the console, you could find a region coding for the game in question perhaps that is for 'all regions', perhaps. I don't know if this is still a thing, but it's worth mentioning.

The systems he listed are all region free actually. Sony is good about this. MS and Nintendo...not so much.

I played a decent ammount of Japanese games. Cannot recomend any that were not exported. I woud actually recomend to stay away unless you are already a fan and able to stomach them. Most of games I played feature all of the following things: mega grinding, wiered perverted characters, alien stories and bosses that instead of dying when you just killed them in battle, start a 10 minute monologue and then magically vanish just so the process can be repeated again later.

If you want plain insanity and can stand possibly bad games, try looking up Metal Wolf Chaos.

Sengoku Basara! Pretty much a must-buy if you enjoy Dynasty Warriors, it's similar to that, but plays easier, and has flashier characters.

Or if you're not into turn-based strategy, there's also the ACE (Another Century's Episode) series. It's a collaboration between From Software (I feel like Dark Souls has no overshadowed their mecha cred) and Banpresto (who make SRW). It's got the gameplay of Zone of the Enders and features mechs from like 10-15 different series. The newest one is ACE R, which is on the PS3.
