Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong are my all time favorites, and John Coltrane and Miles Davis are up there too.

'Basin Street Blues' is probably my favorite song ever.

Seeing a lot of my favs in this thread, and I'd like to add some others you don't see named so often;

Freddie Hubbard:
Horace Silver:
He has fantastic slow-paced songs too.

And this thread needs some Swing Revival bands:
Big Voodoo Daddy:
Royal Crown Revue

Honestly though, I could keep going.

Good gods I wasn't expecting that. I think my ears just came! Honestly, this should be in the soundtrack of Deus Ex or something, it's perfect for cyberpunk.

AH! Awesome videos here by far!

I love all jazz except maybe free jazz. I play trumpet so naturally I tend to listen to trumpet players more often than others.

I love me some Dave Brubeck, and I don't know if SquirrelNutZippers are strictly jazz, but I like them too. Oh, and Gypsy Jazz is great. Folks like Joscho Stephan and Django Reinhardt.

Unfortunately I do not know many jazz musicians aside from the usual like Louie Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, ect. Mostly I prefer swing and other upbeat and fast paced jazz. I have Benny Goodman Orchestra, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Royal Crown Revue, and The Cherry Poppin Daddies. I've also enjoyed Lee Presson and the Nails (goth swing) though I do not own any of their albums. Tom Waits is one of my favourite musicians and though he mostly does blues he also has some jazzier tunes.

For something interesting a favourite band of mine was called Soul Coughing. Their first album was a strange jazz rock electronic fusion with dada beat poetry style lyrics. I think its fun stuff personally. Here's a taste...

I really like nu jazz - adding contemporary (usually electronic) sounds and recording techniques to the tried and true jazz formulae. Stuff like Jaga Jazzist, The Embassadors, Nils Petter Molvaer and Pink Freud. All huge recommendations!

I still hold my memory of going to the Blue Note in NY. It was a semi-mystical experience. Also the first (and almost only) club I've gone was another jazz club in New year in the same city. I do love me some jazz, although I don't listen as much as I should. Satchmo is great, and Miles has something special. Stan getz, Thelonius Monk, Dave Brubeck, Billie Holigay, I love them all, but here it isn't that easy to get discs. I'm quite in love with the Japanese band, Soil 'n' PIMP Sessions, with their incredibly energetic mix.

I really like Bebop Jazz, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker etc. I'm also a pretty big fan of New Orleans jazz and of course who doesn't like Miles Davis? Also my mom gave me one of her old Chuck Mangione albums, so theres that as well.
