Being the massively cool person that I am, I've just spent the last 1/2 an hour looking at pictures of historical armour on the internet, by way of filling in some time before I go to bed. (I know, I know, my life is somewhat slow recently)

I really really like the look of English Greenwich plate armour from the 16th/early 17th century. So ornate, but I like the general shape of it too, lots of smooth bends and curves. Even the more practical battlefield suits are great.

So, what other cool armour you got for me? Can be anything, fantasy, historical, a piece you own yourself, whatever - doesnt have to be practical, or even exist in the real world, just as long as it's awesome :D

The first thing that comes to mind is N7 Armor. I just love how it looks.

(couldn't find the ME2 version for whatever reason)

Can't really think of any real armors that I find really cool at the moment.

My favourite armour from fiction would have to be the Master Chiefs' Spartan armour from Halo:

Solid, strong, believable and just all around awesome.

As for historical armour, I'll go for one of the easy ones and say Teutonic Knight,

It's mainly just the helmet. I love that bucket helmet style.

I find that Dark souls has the coolest armour.

Heck Dark souls 2 isn't even out yet and I'm amazed with the new armour set.

In terms of fictional armor I've always been a fan of ODST armor from the Halo series. It just looks so damn functional, like something that our military could actually adopt within a few decades.

In terms of real/historical armor, I rather like Spartan armor.

Sure it didn't offer nearly as much support as most medieval models, but it looks damn comfortable, allows for decent mobility, and has a helmet that you can actually breath in. Not to mention the enormous shield that generally makes up for any lack of protection offered by the armor itself.

I've always loved the look of scale mail armour, especially when it's bronze.

Magnificent stuff.

For fictional, anything big and over designed.
I know that aesthetic is the perpetual whipping post around here but I love that stuff.

For historical, probably samurai armor.

I feel the same way about ODST armor (was gonna post it too, but I thought that my previous post was already a bit big, with all those pictures).

This is the trojan ballistic armor.

It's real, and yes it is exactly what you think it is. It weighs under 50 lbs and has tons of utility belt-like features.

They were intended to be manufactured and sold for a couple grand, but luckily for my bank account the inventor couldn't get anyone to pick it up.

The stuff from Crysis is pretty badass looking, as is the Space Marine(TM) armour from Warhammer 40k. For real life armour, I have always liked the crusader look.

You know, that stuff looks sort of like the COG armor from Gears of War. Beef up those legs and slap some LEDs on that and you could probably pull off a good Marcus Fenix Cosplay. Kind of a shame that it never entered production.

As for fictional armour, The Witcher 2 had some really, really beautiful looking armour. When it comes to fantasy, I prefer armour that looks flashy and lovely, yet still grounded in reality (I fucking despise those typical bulky over-sized armours that are so common). So it's of no small wonder that some of my favourite fictional armour is stuff like this:

Awesome stuff.

It's weird how no one really talks about how badass the Dwarven Amor from Skyrim is.

So... badass... :0

Marnus Calgar comes to mind. Not just a space marine, the best space marine... that legally exists

Wielding the gauntlets of Ultramar: master-craft power fists made of a material so strong all attempts to open it to study the mechanisms within have failed. And they have a pair of built in machine guns, just cause. Plus the ornate terminator armour thats nearly indestructible. This guy's armour is so badass he literally doesn't bring a weapon into battle, he just pummels everything to death with his gauntlets.

Or Grey Knights:

also just cause..

actually prolly grey knights

I Confess.

Since getting into War40k lore (videogames and books, never tabletop or painting) I've fallen in love with space marine armor. Way over the top, silly in scale, but it makes a big impression on me.
You can see how the medieval plate influences some of the more ridiculous parts-- boots twice the size of the head, pauldrons nearly twice THAT size...

Its way better than that cartoonish starcraft armor that was modeled after it.

Edit.
