Just a little thread for fun.

Which gameworld is the coolest?
Which gameworld is the best?
Which gameworld would you like to live in?
Which gameworld WOULDN'T wou like to live in?

1. Mass Effect - Probably the best sci-fi gameworld i have seen.
2. Half-life - I love it.
3. Either: The Elder Scrolls or Fallout 3 - I think Bethesda did a good job making games you can really imagine yourself in.
4. Left 4 Dead - I would be dead in a second. (I love zombies tho)

1-Jade Empire: A sweet world of Chinese mythology and steampunk. Oh and did I mention that there's a FLOATING CASTLE?

2-Half Life 2: One of the most original game worlds I've ever seen. Everything speaks of what's happened to the Earth if you look closely. The sea levels down showing how the combine are bleeding the planet dry, the grafitti shows things like how the combine took peoples children, we see that it was a once European city through language and architecture and not to mention the suppression of humanity in the form of things like the basic food dispensers, the energy fields and those little copter bots.

3-Tie between Strong Bads cool game for attractive people and the elder scrolls 4 Oblivion: For SBCG4AP it largely stems from the fact that I am a gigantic homestarrunner fan, there are very few people who inhabit freee country USA (And they're all zany and interesting) and something exciting seems to happen each week. For Oblivion it's because despite the fact that there are mudcrabs aplenty as well as harsh laws dictating whether or not you can pick up that pumpkin it's so damn peaceful and beautiful.

4-Rapture: Fighting for life against horrific splicers and underwater robots, my only friends being the slightly less maniacal folk who know how to use a radio transmitter and being sectioned off from the rest of the world. Does that sound appealing as anything other than a very good game?

1. FFX, I'd kill for some blitzball.
2. Mass Effect, not original but a damn good choice.
3. Pokemon - Yeah, I still Wanna be the very best.
4. Silent Hill - Between the monsters and puzzles I don't think Dante's Inferno has a stick to shake at the hell I would be in.

Not really sure if it'd count, but I'm a fan of the generic-ey fantasy setting of Forgotten Realms and it's ilk in games. Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, and even Planescape: Torment (Sorta). That's one helluva pedigree! Setting is cheesy as hell, but fun in a cheesy sort of way. It's awesome cheese!

Counting settings that *only* appear or were created by games though...

1. Thief's 'The City' with it's dark magic vs. technology steampunkish theme and militant religious factions. The constant war between the Hammerites and the Pagans for example is fantastic, as is the imagery used for both factions. Then when you add in the more subtle factions like the mechanists and the Thieves guilds, it just feels 'alive' and so very, very cool and stylish.

2. Starcraft. Not really sure what to say here that everyone else doesn't already know. It's like a giant mashup of The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Apocalypse Now, Aliens, Independence Day, and Star Wars among other influences. Great stuff! Please Blizzard, don't screw it up with Starcraft 2.

3. The Longest Journey's Arcadia/Stark worlds. One's high-tech futuristic, the other's over-the-top fantasy. Love how the story changes gears as you switch from one world to the other. One moment it's a Deus Ex style global corporate conspiracy, the next ancient evils arising and only one hero *on a quest* can stop it! Love it! Would love to live there, either one, and be able to travel between the two.

4. Warhammer 40k... okay it's not a game *only* setting, but jeez, who would ever want to live in that setting? When the giant military dictatorship with a penchant for purging infidels and spanish style inquisitions is the *least* evil of the factions, you know you're screwed!
