Sad that the dog died.

Why is every cop story in the US bate for people to jump on US police officers or the US for violence. Withe the tens of thousand responses every day, "mistakes" happen, criminal acts happen, great things happen, but mostly mundane things happen. The sad part is every single one of those has to be treated the same way, because any situation can turn bad. Spend some time on google and you can see anyone of those things, pulling over Batman helping children, crazy grandma pulling a gun on an officer, officer beating helpless man.

For those that don't know police protocal, and I am no expert, but domestic violence is a violent crime and an officer has to expect violence, he could have a gun, killed her, etc. So going in with his gun drawn is not an issue. He told the guy to raise his hands. A large dog potentially went after him. You have a split second to assess the situation, potential violent criminal who may have beat up someone and potential violent dog guarding him coming after you. Do you lay your gun down, and pet the the puppy hoping to calm him? Not many options in this case. Dogs don't stop when they see a gun like humans, it's a deterant to humans. Pets will still attack. If Dog attacks, all Hell could break lose, sadly for his safety and the safety of the victim (which again, he still thinks there is one), he has to shoot the dog. If he goes down... Lastly, officers respond to calls withouth back up often. Depends on the situation, timing, size of force, etc.

Outcome - do a review of procedures, see if there is anyway to improve the process. As any shots fired, the officer if probably on paid leave. Police Force should compensate the man for pain and suffering, but not extreme. I would sue the actual person who was committing domestic violence. This doesn't happen if there is no call, in which no crime was occuring.

Yeah, police officers make mistakes. I understand. However, that's not a good excuse when they shot a man's dog, something he may have loved immensely, for no good reason, as the police officer didn't even give him the time to calm his dog down. The dog acted like you would expect any dog to. Should the officer be punished? Yes, most certainly, even though it was a mistake, the fact he went to the wrong house and ended another creature's life unnecessarily should amount to more than just a slap on the wrist. Fired? No. As stated before, it was a mistake, and they happen. Overall, it's just a very sad story. I feel sorry for the dog owner.

The officer went in with his weapon already drawn, didn't even let the owner have a chance to calm his dog down.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: The owner could not restrain the dog because he was held at gun point. The owner even told the officer that the dog would not hurt him.
How about editing in the fact that the officer was told the wrong address?

The way the thread is titled, the way you write in your post, all makes it sound like the cop derped his way into a random house and just opened fire.

Watch the video again. At about the 2.30 minute mark - 'but the 911 caller gave the wrong address'. The officer went to the address that he was told to go to.

Don't get me wrong here people, I do think the officer could have handled the situation better. I just don't like misinformation.

I have no idea why the Officer went into what he thought was a domestic dispute with his gun drawn. Cops in America are too quick to pull out their little friend. Domestic Disputes happen in the UK too yet SOMEHOW they manage to deal with it without needing so much as a baton in their hands, let alone a deadly weapon.

What happened to knocking on the door, and attempting diplomacy first?

And so what if the dog was barking? Even moving towards him? Unless the Officer believed the owner had given the Dog an order to attack then he should draw upon the common knowledge that thats just what dogs do. Had that cop never encountered a dog before? My friends have dogs that bark when someone so much as steps on the driveway, that will charge at the door when there's a visitor; Thats just Canine behaviour and its not aggressive at all.

Even if he'd gone to the right house his behaviour is more than questionable.
Remember his mindset is going into a violent situation. IN 1 to 2 seconds, he cannot get the man to calm the dog. And how does one do that. Can't put this game on pause and let him do so without putting the office and expected victim in more harm. It's sad, but you can't tell agressive from puppy love in these situations.

Also, I am sure people in the US would love things taken care of with a baton. Please tell criminals to stop carrying guns. (I neither for or against America's gun laws, but facts are facts at this point)

I'd just say "lol, what a Muppet" but then I'd get done for a low content post.

I guess I'll add that he should face disciplinary action. Perhaps a written warning (or yank equivalent) and apologise to the owner?
I'm sure he'll feel much better about being held at gunpoint in his own home and having his dog shot after he gets an apology.

The cop should lose his god damn job, and be responsible for replacing the dog(as much as can be).

1. You made fun of my spelling -----> I was correcting you, there is a difference. Also, it was more grammar than spelling.
2. You called me immature ---------> You still are.
3. You called me a prissy brat -------> Demonstrated in this very thread.
4. You got me in trouble ------------> You got you in trouble.

Why is there a fist firmly and consistently lodged upside your ass?

Oh,

Every time I talked to him, he said he did nothing wrong.
I didn't.

3/10

I've seen better trolling from a 5th grader. Replacing pronouns with insult? I thought trolling had evolved beyond that.
I admit, I was being a bit lenient, and just slapped that number on. 3/10 seems about right(If still not being forgiving).
