I believe a thread on this has popped up before, but allow to go a bit into this. We all know that, for whatever reason, a popular opinion on Cosplay is girls yay, guys nay. Granted I've seen several pictures of "This costume protects my virginity" And although the dude looks like he was having fun, and on several occasions the costume looked pretty damn good, a lot have seemed to be really...What's the word? Lame?

I'm sorry, but that looks like a really well done costume, home made or not, and that guy does not look a single bit wrong in it. The setting is off placing, but that's not really an issue...I honestly want to hurt whoever made this caption, because it's very insulting I find. Over the years, I've taken a lot of interest in cosplay and I've realized just how stressful and expensive it can be, and how motivated cosplayers are. Actually, I have a friend who cosplays and the fact he wanted to be perfect for his costume motivated him enough to get healthy and get lose weight.

So yeah...double standards suck, hate them, wish they were gone.

The reason that many people's opinion on cosplay concerning the sexes are "girls yay, guys no" are because girls tend to "sex" up their costumes, and there's nothing that gets a bunch of self-satisfied nerds behind your laptop screen frothy than an attractive woman in a Mario costume that looks like she's left half the costume at home.

Anyone who has hobbies or interest different from mine/the norm is obviously inferior and should be mocked.

The logic is a bit odd, though, because on the whole, I don't think it's the stereotypical manly male that is presumably disapproving that the caption is saying they won't have sex with.

Of course it tends to be "Girls Yay, Guys Nay." Most gamers are guys and most guys like checking out girls in hot outfits, which most female cosplay out fits are.

Really, what's more attractive to a guy:

Or

I wouldn't say it's double standards to say, as there are some rather known male cosplayers

I would wager there are just as many guys doing cosplay as girls, it's just the girls are more focused on simply because, well, sex sells.

Then there are costumes that are just pure badass no matter what sex is in them.

I dunno. I mean, I've seen plenty of scorn directed at female cosplayers should they happen to be overweight. Yeah, maybe everyone likes the pretty girls in costume, but the not so pretty girls?
I'd be more annoyed at judgemental people than a double standard here.

Plus some non-gamers probably think cosplay is stupid anyway - no matter how well done the costume is, so I wouldn't really care what they think.
Basically, if you want to dress up like your favourite character, some people will judge you. It is best to not give a fuck.

If you're dressing up as your favourite character then you give a fuck by definition.

I mean to say; it is exhibitionism. If you can't critisise someone who is making a spectacle of themselves then who can you criticise?

Eh, as long as the cosplay is good, then I don't care if it's a guy or girl doing it.

P.S. - I cosplay as well! [http://www.cosplay.com/member/224293/costumes/]

I absolutely despise women who do that. I mean those ones who wear pretty much next to nothing and try pass it off as a cosplay. Feminising the character is fine and can look good but if you had any respect for the character, you wouldn't slutty them up. If you have any respect for yourself, you wouldn't leave the house with your gash and tits nearly falling out, cosplay or not.

A girl in a black string bikini and Batman mask is a massive fail.

OT: I saw the picture and pretty much everyone's comment was 'I know plenty of women who would love a bit of Ezio in the bedroom.'
A well pulled off Cosplay can look very good and attractive for both sexes.
I think the problem is many people think Cosplaying is a pathetic and sad hobby to have. ("it's dressing up as a fictional character, weirdo! hurr hurr.")

I'd say you're a pretty big nerd if you want to take part in Cosplay. Obviously the more nerdier you are the less sex you get. ._. /sarcasm.

My impression from anime conventions is that the females outnumber the males, and the females attending these things like a good cosplay.

Yes a lot of people outside these events will look down on cosplay (many are actually quite intrigued and think it's a fun idea) but I tend not to care, it's just a hobby.

Gotta say holy christ on a bike does that look amazing... awesome cosplay indeed.

But yeah i got nothing against anyone doing cosplay the whole "lol forever virgin" because someone does something outside of what you think is socially "cool".

Grow up i say, i hang out with loads of different people it's what makes life intresting!, stoners, pub goers, ravers, nerds, sportsman and lets not forget middle aged woman bingo night. I don't give a bollacks and neither should the morons posting that shit.

Fucking 9gag is full of first year uni students and high school retards having an on going pissing match whilst in the process creating no original content. (its tagged by 9gag hence the rage.)

I'd also like to point out that the creator of this image has no idea how many people go to cons to get laid....that's no joke either.

To each their own.

There are always people that live in both extremes (those who think about nothing else but cosplay and those who view it as an entertaining hobby), but the fact still remains that these people enjoy cosplay. Clearly some more than others (Sailor Bubba is just plain wrong). I don't think it's fair to judge people based on what they do in their spare time or what they consider to be fun because when you least expected it, people can surprise you.

I love cosplay, and I honestly don't really worry about what other people think of it.
I enjoy it, A lot of other people enjoy it and It doesn't hurt anyone.

And seriously, The stereotype that all cosplayers are weird Virgin guys (Whilst true for me, and many others) is so very wrong. Cosplay has also been used on several occasion for hot women to test "How many clothes can I not wear before it's illegal?"

I know a few male cos-players who make pretty decent looking costumes, and no one really looks down on them. Also, the one who cosplays as Link gets soooo much p*ssy at the cons you wouldn't believe it.

I don't think women sexing up their costume is wrong. To each his own right? If they have a nice looking body and aren't afraid to show it off more power to 'em.

Never been to one, nor do I know where it's held, so I don't know. Unless you're talking about my cosplay photos, then those were taken at either NYCC 2011, the Village Halloween Parade, at home, or at school, depending on which one you're looking at.

Upon closer inspection, what I thought was the MCM expo is not. *First picture*. I got confused because the setting looks similar. And, you're in america, and Mcm was in london, so my bad :p

Failed to quote, *Sad trumpet
