Far Cry 3's co op is...okay. I liked it, however it's just a series of rather short, wave shooter missions that playing straight through will not last that long. It banks on you hopefully wanting to play the same missions over and over again to unlock new equipment and levels. There are a few neat little sections during missions in which the game has you directly compete with your partner too, like one part where you need to snipe to defend yourselves, the game has you see who snipes the most enemies. Or a mission where you both are on ATVs attempting to collect explosives and see who can collect the most first.

I don't recommend playing with people online in co op though. My experience has shown that everyone playing online co op are absolute morons who try to rush into a large group of enemies, and then expect you to rush in behind so you can revive them.

Diablo III was also great on consoles, though I didn't like the PC version. I've played local multiplayer in it and it's marginally chaotic but good fun. They added a roll so you can dodge too. It's better if you play with someone who doesn't hoard loot.
Really? I would've thought the PC version was better. If only because it's one of those clicky games.
On consoles it is reminiscent to games like Champions of Norath/Return to Arms or the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games (all four are PS2 games.) I'm not sure if you've played any of them, but they are fantastic fun.
I played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II (solely on co-op, too, me and my partner keep joking to the day about the stupidly named "Jade Octahedron") and didn't really like it much. It seemed a tad too short and anticlimactic. Most missions were streamlined and solved themselves pretty quickly in one-shot locations, and grinding - which I like - never even came up as a thing. I was a big fan of Diablo II though, back in the day.
Well, Diablo III on consoles is the same story and everything as the PC version; grinding is still a thing though the console versions have different loot systems. The comparison I made to Champions/Dark Alliance is just meant to assuage fears of a console port of a mouse-heavy game (they control easily, even though they're basically ripoffs of a keyboard/mouse game.) The PC version has hotkeys for skills which translated directly to the various buttons. The core game is almost the same, it was basically just streamlined for controller support and it ends up feeling better than the same game on PC. Well that's just the opinion of myself and a few other people I know who've played both versions.

If you liked Borderlands 1, you should get Borderlands 2. It's basically the same game with a lot of refinements. The inventory is still kind of weird but if you get GOTY, you can bump up the slots into the 40s I think. I got it at launch and I still play it with a buddy almost every weekend.

Just got Diablo 3 and you'll probably like that too. I don't know if you've played the others but it's kind of like Borderlands but with the theme and playstyle of a Gauntlet game.

I'd also have to second the Katamari Forever recommendation, it's just plain fun.

I also had a lot more fun than I expected with Rockband.

You might also want to check out the ton of twin-stick shooters available in the psn store; We've played Dead Nation and Kill Team - both cheap & fun but not the most sophisticated games. There are demos available for most of them too.

You'll find this list helpful
http://www.co-optimus.com/system/2/playstation-3.html
It lists both online and offline co-op games but it tells you how many players for each type.

It's unfortunate to see offline co-op go the way of the cartridge but since all the game systems play online and now charge a monthly fee for it too, it's probably going to become an even more scarce feature outside of Nintendo consoles maybe.

I played Diablo 2 a LOT in high school but the reviews for 3 were so negative I didn't even bother looking at gameplay videos. Good co-op would sell the game for me. Loot isn't an issue, I love bickering over it.

Borderlands 2 is better in many respects than 1, but it's got some problems. It's very easy to break the game. You're a lot squishier, and so are the enemies, which is always less fun. The loot is a lot more varied, but a lot less of it is useful, and the game never gives you what you want.

The console version of Diablo III is a lot better than the PC version.

Judging by a few of those titles, you may wanna consider Scott Pilgrim Versus the World. It's a great side scrolling beat 'em up. And playing with more than one person can be fun if difficult.

Only thing to note is that the game won't save your character data other than on player one. Of course, you can abuse this to give a character obscene amounts of money and then upgrade them by taking advantage of The Secret Shop in the first level.

I had a blast playing Dungeon Siege III with my brother. It's not as good as Diablo III, but it's quite enjoyable.

That is actually excellent news. Why's that exactly?
Local Co-Op, no online requirement, better drop rates due to not having an Auction House, Diablo is just better with a controller, multiple difficulty levels. (Easy mode is what the PC version is. Normal is perfectly reasonable for about half the game, and then the Barbarian unlocks the spin, and you've won the game.)

Hold your horses, I know of http://www.co-optimus.com/ and that "recommend me co-op games" is a recurrent thread. I already came up with a list of games I'm interested in, I just want your opinion about them, specifically regarding whether they have good (couch/offline) co-op or not. I'm willing to buy a nominally mediocre game if the co-op makes up for it.

Borderlands 2 (already have 1 and I like it, does 2 do anything differently?)
Diablo III
Dragon's Crown
(personally I'm leaning towards this, I like shared screen co-op)
Far Cry 3 (actually the game looks attractive enough to get on its own, but I was wonderin about the tacked-on co-op)
Little Big Planet (looks fun, but is it fun?)
Portal 2 (I heard it's very brief and doesn't offer a lot of replay value?)
Resident Evil 6 (I played RE5 on co-op several times and liked it. I've heard a lot of shit about RE6 but nothing specifically co-op)

If you can think of any other good couch co-op games on the PS3 you're more than welcome to bring them up though I'm a little weary of FPS (which seem to be the most popular option).
Borderlands 2: No, it doesn't do much differently. Me and my friend ended up with Borderlands fatigue when we got to it after finishing the first one. So I personally wouldn't recommend it since you're weary of FPS and have played first one.

Dragon's Crown: If you don't mind having to wait for your friend (and vice-versa) when he/she is allocating skill points, shopping, inventory check, etc. then go for it. You can't do those simultaneously, which can be a drag.

Far Cry 3: Just saying, unlike Single Player, there is no level-up system and no skill menus. So it just ends up being a generic shooter. I only played it with my friend just so I can get platinum trophy. When I found out that you don't need to finish the co-op shooter to get platinum, we stopped playing immediately.

Little Big Planet: I bought it because it looked fun. And turns out, it really is. If you're not so quick to dismiss the game because it looks childish, girly, or w/e, then LBP may have something for you.

Portal 2: I didn't find it brief. To me, it was more of moderate length. I had a lot of fun with it, arguing with my friend which direction we should take, sharing insults for not having precision, and high-fiving after we accomplished a puzzle... and such.

Haven't played RE6 nor Diablo 3.

Hope this helps.

Dungeon Siege III has local co-op that is actually not bad.

Little Big Planet has fun co-op.

I found the split screen play in Borderlands 2 not so great. I found the field of vision to be distracting.

I remember a year or so ago looking for games with local co-op to play with my wife and being pretty disappointed in the overall selection. Most games seem to only support online multiplayer, which is a shame.

My friend and I play completely different characters so there's little bickering.
I think the first two came out around a time when I wasn't gaming much and never played them myself. We are enjoying 3 though.

And to answer the above question; yes, Sacred 2 has couch co-op. Similar to Diablo 3 but not as good a game overall. However it is one of the few games on the ps3 that also allows you to play your own music.

Dynasty Warriors 8! That is, if you can appreciate the dumb fun that is DW. I have been playing it with a few friends of mine for the past couple weeks and it's been a fucking blast! All modes are local and online co-op.
I've been a little biased towards Dynasty Warriors ever since I saw that one Unskippable though to be honest I have no idea what the gameplay is like, let alone what *kind* of game it is. It could be RTS for all I know.
Could always pick up Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes if you want a more colorful crowd-fighter than Dynasty Warriors.
It's like playing a cheesy, action-packed anime, especially with the english dubs.

Just to let you know, there's almost 0 reason to get Little Big Planet 1 instead of Little Big Planet 2. All the custom levels of LBP1 are available on LBP2 and I would even say the campaign in 2 is better. (It's a lot more varied and actually a lot of fun to go through)

The biggest advantage of the series is if you can really get stuck into the online levels though. There are some pieces of genius out there and it's crazily varied. If it clicks you really can entertain yourself forever, but it doesn't click with everyone.

I would not get Far Cry 3 just for its co op campaign. It's far too short, for one, and little more than fulfilling a few objectives. It's still fun, but you'll finish it within 2 hours easily.

Not knowing the others, I would recommend BL2.

This is actually extremely important to know, thank you.

Sadly I can't do PSN exclusives since I don't have a credit card and anyway the peso is too devaluated at this point for me to purchase anything that's in dollars.
