Could a Steam iPhone (or other phones that support apps) work?

This was a thought I had the other day.

What is ValvE made a Steam-like app that could run on the iPhone or other phones that support apps.

Some of the features I thought it could include would be:

-Community chat with your friends
-Steam store purchase that would be added to your games list the next time you log onto a computer
-Trailer viewing
-Steam news and updates

It would really be a simple app, but I think it could work.

Thoughts?

Couldn't you just log into the Steam website?

That has got everything you seek apart from chat I think.
(Which admittedly would be the most useful part)

Problem with iPhone is it's by Apple, and they're a bunch of dictators who won't let anything touch their devices without running them through an inquisition... but I do like my iPhone.

That being said, there's some phones that are open source and could certainly benefit from this sort of thing. In fact I would love to see it, especially if in some way it could communicate with whatever system you normally game on, like how PSP and PS3 are linked (I don't own a PSP but this is what I've heard/read).

I'd love to be able to check out new games on my phone and purchase for download wherever I want, even if it's only playable on my console or PC or w/e. And the chat would be cool too.

Indeed

Theres no technical reason you couldn't do it, just that Apple won't allow it because it'd compete with Apple's own store...

Any other company doing the same will be dropped on like of ton of bricks, but if apple does it, they're praised... I just don't understand it.

I don't want to come across as a MS fanboy (i don't like them much either) but you have to be objective. Why is what Apple is doing fine, except when another company does it it's evil...

BE CONSISTENT

It's either wrong or right, what company doing it is irrelevant...

I agree with the consensus, if done correctly it would work and i would make full use of it.
