I can understand why it would be expensive
It's not that expensive anymore after the price drops and since you don't have to pay to play online it's actually worth it.

Oh and don't forget Playstation Home! :3

It's not mandatory but from a practical sense you end up doing it. The motion controls aren't well implemented in most games, so using controllers specifically designed for the game usually is a better idea. You could get away with paying less, but the Wii's already anemic library would be shrunk further.
Ok I was just wondering about that myself thanks for clearing that up.

PS3

360 and PS3 are pretty identical in terms of the games and quality.. they are pretty much 5-6 year old PCs in terms of graphics power. Ps3 has a cell processor which is way more powerful, but devs hardly use it or really know how to get full benefits from it. Its why sometimes a multiplatform game looks better on one or the other system.

I dont know what you guys are talking about with Install times with the PS3. I have a 120 Slim, I bought a 7200 RPM 750gig drive and installs are pretty fast for a 5-8gig game. Thats a huge plus by the way.. you dont have to use some shotty MS proprietary expensive Hard Drive.. buy any 2.5 you want and you are golden with the PS3.

PSN Network works great for me, speed is fine and they have a ton of content. I dont know what people complain about its slow performance.. they must have 1.5 DSL connections which at this day and age are as bad as old 56k dialups.

I have MLB.TV and the MLB TV ap on the PS3 is awesome! its fast as hell and one of the better thought out and done aps I have seen. I used to get MLBtv right over my Cable or Satellite and the speed from instant broadcast to stream is unnoticeable and the stream on the PS3 is higher quality HD by far.

Dont forget that almost all the games are on Blu Rays so they are always on 1 disc and since Blu Rays are much stronger/scratch resistant than DVDs they have a longer life.

Lastly the PS3 is still one of the top Blu Ray players out there and around the same price, I wish I bought a second PS3 instead of my top rated Samsung 3600 BluRay player

cons - You have to install games.

Pros - It's got a blu-ray drive, web browser, plenty of games, Online play is free, and the standard PS3 nowdays has a 120Gb harddrive.

Last I recall the 360 cant play most of the old Xbox games.. so knocking the PS3 for not playing PS2 games doesnt make sense, especially since PS2 games still sell on their own and the Xbox has been long dead.

Pros:

You have a PS3

Cons:

You don't have a 360
You don't have a Wii

Just look at the games and get what you want. At this point, in terms of performance, the 360 Slim and the PS3 Slim are so similar that it really just comes down to the games.

Why is everyone saying the PS3 Slim is not backwards compatible? It plays all my PSX games.
The slim will play PS1 games, but will not run PS2 games. From what I've read it was costing sony too much to keep the components needed for PS2 backwards compatibility, which is why the current version is 'slim'.

Part of the reason why the PS3 was so expensive at launch was the way they went about giving it backwards compatibility. It essentially had a PS2 built into it as kind of a second console.

Ahh, well in Australia we only had one bulky PS3 that had the PS2 backwards compatibility, while every other one released here didn't have it, be it bulky or slim. Not just the slim version was cut down. But yeah I understand what you mean about it being too expensive for Sony. Lucky I still have my PS2 :D

i personally dont see any cons to a ps3 atleast mine. i mean got the old 60gb monster so its backwards compatable.

and i dont find its size and weight an issue, i mean its not a gameboy, im not gonna carry it around all day.

installing is i guess a little bit annoying but meh, not a big deal really.

price wise ya its more expensive then the other two but online is free and the xbox isnt, so if u u play online like i do then it kinda makes the ps3 cheaper in that sense. and the wii has SOOO many accessories that it WILL add up

Ahh lucky! I had a ps2 years ago, but sold it when I became more interested in pc gaming; huge mistake.

Although my love for some of the playstation specific games pushed me to buy the ps3, a friend said his had backwards compatibility so I took him at his word. They don't sell anything but slims around here, so I was screwed either way. I bought about 10 ps2 games assuming I could play them. I still haven't bothered to scour ebay for a cheap ps2, but regardless I'm quite happy with my ps3. :p

Another con with the original behemoth PS3 was you'd get fingerprint smudges on it if it was so much as in the same room as someone with hands.

It's funny because it's true!

Personally I have no beef with the HDD install that some games require, since the benefits far outweigh the waiting period. Another thing that has always had me coming back to Sony's system is DualShock. I understand that this is a matter of personal opinion and that many people like the Xbox controller, hell one of my best friends does, but for me the DualShock is and has always been a perfect fit, whereas the Xbox one gives me Carpal Tunnel Syndrome just by looking at the thing.

As far as cons go, my consoles have had a tendency for freezing quite often. However, I've noticed that it seems to depend on the game i.e. Red Dead Redemption and Transformers: WFC have frozen multiple times when Super Street Fighter IV has never done so.

All in all, if you have 360? kicking around, I highly recommend getting one.

I find the DualShock to be a bit awkward on occasion, but it's not that big of a deal. I wouldn't call it the worst controller ever made, though. That would be the Dreamcast controller, which I think was designed by someone who had never seen a pair of hands before, just had them vaguely described to him.

I don't have any major gripes with my PS3, but I have the full phat PS3 with everything it had in the first place (apart from Linux), I can even play Super Audio CD's if I so wish.

Game installs don't bother me at all, since I used to play on PC's and installs come with that territory.

omega 616 said:
You don't get a choice about installs but in my experience not alot of games install.

Besides a few crashes I have never had a problem with my launch PS3, my only small gripe is my analogue sticks stick sometimes.

I assume there just in need of a good clean but with what?
Wet wipes or rubbing alcohol works a treat, I disinfected mine yesterday because my cousin had a piss and didn't wash his hands the dirty French git.

Also, you may have recieved a message on PSN from me in French yesterday, sorry about that!, I forgot my MW2 disk is in French.
I saw you pop on and offline a few times but I didn't know I had gotted a message, I will have a check in a sec. French? I can do a little German but French is a bit beyond me.

If it doesn't kill you it only makes you stronger, I wouldn't want to put alcohol in a controller though, I don't want to spend £40 on a new controller.

That makes you sound like one of them people who buys a touch screen phone and constantly wipe it clean.

You know you could just edit one post to make one liners, it would look less like spam and be more likely to have all your points read.

Edit, I was meant to put this in an edit myself ... I fail, big time!

I'm not, my hands are mummy-like in their dryness, but gloss plastic just attracts smudges like you wouldn't believe. The PSP has the same problem, only it's worse with the PSP since it's something that's meant to be held the entire time it's in use.

Gloss plastic is pretty, but not for things that have to come in contact with anything.

It also makes dust stand out like stars in the night sky.
