Personally, I'd be more than a little offended if a feature of a product that I paid for was suddenly removed. As in, class action lawsuit offended. In the case of Backwards compatability, you wouldn't have a shot (simply because you could not have paid for the feature and not gotten it - either you got a system with backwards compatability or you didn't). In the case of the alternate OS on the otherhand, I'm pretty sure here is a very reasonable complaint to be made.

None of it really bothers me.

I have a ps2 so no need for backwards compatibility.
I dont really need a SD card reader, or extra USB slots. I only use it to charge my controller.
I have a perfectly good PC right here, no need for another OS on something that already does gaming well.

I think i can safely make up the fact that 90% of the ps3 owners agree with me on at least 2/3 points.
This.

And the fact of Move being optional I don't see the point of bitching.

For the last year, PS3 has built up quite a bit of momentum, with a lineup of stellar games highlighted by GOW3 and Uncharted 2. However, Move has been deemed by many as a cheap knock-off of the Wii. By comparison, Microsoft's Project Natal has generated a lot of buzz and is being lauded as the next big thing in gaming. In addition, PS3 has slowly been losing features since its release - backwards compatibility, USB slots, and now the ability to run OtherOS - while the XBox 360 and Wii have lost no features at all.

What could this mean for the public perception of the PS3 and Sony? It's possible that the public will see Sony as copycats and corporate bullies who rip off other companies and their own consumers. Meanwhile, MS and Nintendo could bolster their images and viewed as innovators who always bring something fresh and new to the table and always try to improve upon the experience one would have using their products.

What do you think? Are there dark times ahead for Sony?
99% of their customer base don't use these things.

Yes backwards compatibility is nice but not necessary, if you've got the old games you generally have the old console too. A couple of USB slots dont really matter when most people don't use them. The ability to run other OSs is largely irrelevant people can use a computer though I'm sure it may annoy some research teams whole like the sheer power in the PS3 but then they just need to avoid the update.

No.

The "other OS" option was very rarely used, and I seriously doubt anyone was convinced to buy a PS3 just because of that.

The Move can only be a good thing. Anyone''s own opinions about motion control aside, a new control method will draw in new buyers, and people who don't care about it don't have to buy it. Nobody ever said "this console has all the games I want and more, so I won't buy it because I don't like the optional extra stuff".

Seeing as more and more psp, psone and psn games are being released every week on the store it shows that the catalogue of games is greatly expanding, therefore theoretically encouraging more people to think of getting one if they want to replay the classics on their psp etc.

They're also bringing 3d out soon which seems to be all the rage since Avatar made its debut at the cinema, so a lot of people might get overexcited about that.

Also, the fact its a bluray player means people may be inclined to spend a bit more on a console as opposed to just a bluray player.

So basically, in the long run, I think it'll do fine.

Well here's something that kind of proves my point. The Move will help the PS3, sure, but my point is that Natal will help the 360 more. Furthermore, if you have a choice between two products (Wii and PS3 + Move) which are essentially the same except for the price (Wii at $250 and PS3 + Wii at almost $400), which would you rather buy?
