Could videogames be used for team building?

I was thinking reciently instead of Team Building days where it's all trust falls and co-ordinating a group of blindfolded and entangled co-workers through an obsitcle course, could videogames be used as a more effective team building tool?

If so what games would you think would be best at fostering teamwork within people?

Something like Left 4 Dead 2 in Realism mode...that relies heavily on teamwork. Of RE5 on Professional mode, but that might just make people angry.

I trusted my raiding group. Well, the good players anyway. I'd never met any of them in person and our sole contact had been text, voice, and maybe a couple of "This is our guild" pictures thread but I was still more than happy to trust them to get the job done and do the right thing.

I would say it's perfectly possible, depending on the game.

That said, I think games are a solitary pursuit. Using them for team building defeats the purpose.

What about something like team fortres or Counter strike, pure simple, repitive team based combat.. still a solitary pursuit?

Wouldn't know. I don't play them. If a game relies heavily on multiplayer there's about a 99.999% chance I won't even touch it.

Give them all airsoft/paintball guns, throw them in a field/abandoned factory with plenty of ammo.

As for VG, i think yes they can, just choose simple games that favor teamplay.
