If that were the only option, then I probably would try. I'm willing to bet I'd pass out and then die of blood loss though

I go through life following the rule that any predicament can be solved with diplomacy. So I guess I would ask the rick to politely move or ask my arm to kindly fall off so that I don't have to do it.
The rick?
Rick rolling just got out of had :p

I think I'd rather just be dead than have to remember the whole traumatic ordeal.

There's definitely a moral to the story, and it is "don't go do potentially dangerous shit without telling anyone where you are."

I wouldn't be able to personally.. :/

Why did the guy have to do it? Will he starve otherwise?

I would say "No" aswell. I'm rather attached to my arm and I don't have a very high pain tolerance.

Also, didn't he not only amputate his arm, but all he had to do it with was a blunt pocket knife?

I have a shite tolerance of pain. The idea of a quick death actually scares me much less than that kind of pain. Even at that, if I could sever it with one clean blow, maybe I could stay in control. Either that or pass out.

I think if you say no, youre really discounting the human will to survive. After 5 days completely alone and trapped, you would probably do whatever it takes to get out, especially knowing the alternative is death by dehydration which is horrible and extremely painful.
If you have issue with cutting of your own arm, you most certainly would have a a greater issue with dying that way.

My answer is yes. I would hate every second of it, but after a week like that, it might seem like an excellent idea.

Well, it depends. How do I amputate it. Do I just pull until it rips?
Well, Ralston did it like this. Spoiler for those who don't want to know.

First of all, he broke the two bones in his arm just a little above the right wrist. He then got a cheap multitool thing and used the small blade to cut open his arm.. He saw the artery and remembered to wrap a tourniquet around his arm to cut the flow of blood to stop him from bleeding to death. He then just chopped and sawed at everything (including the nerve), until it was off and he was free.
Sweet baby Jesus that dude has balls.

OT: No. Not a fucking chance. I am waaaaaaaaaaay too much of a pussy to do something like that.

if there is no other option I will do it (assuming I have a bottle of vodka and a sharp saw) I would also ask the doctor to install a kick ass bionic commando arm

As much as i'd like to say yes... I'm really not sure. I don't think i could. But then again, if faced with that or death? I choose amputation, of course. Whether or not i'd actually be able to go through it or not... I can't really say.

probably if it was my last resort. But if there was a high chance of dying of bloodloss if there isnt a medical team or a hospital nearby but i doubt in my heart i would not be able to do it.
