Could you do this for the price of world peace?

Babies aren't even sentient. So yeah. My first idea is to play a game of football with the baby as a ball. It was a dream I had once.

Define world peace. No more wars? No more murder? No more rape? No more dictatorships?

No more deception in politics or economics? No more con artists? No more business scams? No more corruption?

No more ill will toward any other man or woman? No more bigotry of any kind? No more tragedy of the commons? No more poisonous sources of energy? Do we get a planet that's on pace to still be alive in 100 years?

I assume the animal kingdom would continue eating each other viciously? Would humans still kill animals in self defense? What about agricultural animals? Is the farmer allowed to slaughter his animals personally, do we have to hire a bunch of engineers to make a slaughterhouse, or do we all become vegan?

I could also go into specifics on the baby and it's torture, but that's a road I don't want to go down.

TLDR: Yea, probably.

The way I see it, I would be doing the baby a favor by torturing it; after the torture it gets to grow up in world where peace instead of war is the norm. Also the question doesn't state how long you have to torture the infant for, so you could simply torture it for a second then say, "done", and bam world peace.

Depends, do we get 100 years, 1000 years, forever or just 1 day of peace per baby?
I'd go for yes now, but then having it there and having to do it I doubt I'd have the balls to do it.

It's a ridiculous oxymoron, because it is not peaceful. If you are actively destroying peace, then it cannot be done "for" world peace.

Questions like this are stupid, because under what utterly unbelievable circumstances would give a situation where torturing a baby would lead to world peace?

I honestly think I could do it. I probably would be scarred for life, but seeing as human nature prevents world peace any other way, I would do it. But no one can know something like that unless they are put in that situation.

No I wouldn't. Aside from the obvious reasons I would not humor the sick powers that gave me that choice.

That's just ridiculous. Even hypothetical scenarios need to have some sort of basis in reality. Why would torturing a baby be remotely beneficial to world peace?

I don't like babies so yes, I would. I don't really have any moral qualms with harming babies though. I would do much worse for world peace.

I guess this really comes down to one's personal definitions of "torture", "baby", and "world peace". For me that goes "nothing short of the traditional icepick under the fingernails", "a human who has been breathing on its own for at least a few hours" and "the cessation of all life on planet Earth", as life inherently begets conflict... so no, I don't want world peace. Baby torture I'm indifferent toward.

The only way to ensure world peace would be to essentially remove free will.

So... you're asking if I'd torture an innocent just to remove the free will of every living creature on earth?

Nah, I'll pass, thanks.

As no specific torture technique was stated, and in fact only the ambiguous "torture" was given, I choose sound torture. Since infants don't fully comprehend the sounds they hear anyways, it would have little to no effect on the baby. Check and mate my friend. World peace at no cost!

So seeing that thread "Save One...Save Many" reminded me of this topic I saw on another forum stemming from this youtube video down here... I have no idea how to embed these things so if you wanna watch, feel free to click it. For those who don't wanna watch, why just jump on down.

To basically sum it up, this girl was on this other site she frequents where they sometimes get polls with serious questions. And on this day, she got the question: "Would you torture a baby for world peace?"

Her answer was yes and she gave reasons and stuff. It's really a short vid. But now I am asking you all!

Could you do it? Would you do it?

My answer by the way is no. Sorry world. I'm not gonna go against my morals and risk emotional scarring and a whole bunch of issues for you. NO DICE.
Hey, this reminds me of the poem, "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas"
Pretty sure I'd walk away as well.
