I was thinking about the character Mystique from X-Men. Having been played by Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence, it's easy to fall for that character. Even though she is blue. Not that I'm a racist. It's just usually when someone has blue skin that means they're dead. I digress.

I was thinking about the positives and negatives of being in a relationship with someone who can change their appearance at will. No doubt, it would be a complicated relationship that would require a lot of trust. Could you fall in love with someone who can change their appearance like Mystique?

I don't see why not.

I suppose it would have it's own complications (What do you actually look like? Are you pretending to be my best friend to see if I talk about you while you're gone? Would you stop turning into a dude when we make out please? It's creepy) but for the most part, I imagine it would be just like a normal relationship.

While physical looks are a part of a relationship, I would argue that they are the smaller part of a successful relationship.

That would possibly depend on what they looked like in their natural form. Them being able to change form wouldn't be a huge deal breaker, but if I found them repulsive in their natural form then I feel like id be lying to them. Other than that it would just require trust and honesty, like most relationships.

Before the relationship becomes too serious, I would like to see their true form. No matter what it looks like. I could see some problems if she was like a worm with tentacles everywhere. I might feel like I'd be lying is I called them beautiful or something. But other than that should be smooth sailing.

That's something that always confused me about some shapeshifters in fiction: they're all angsty about having to hid their true form from the public, even though their true form is batter looking then most of the human race and they would have no trouble fitting in (case in point: Mystique).

That's something that always confused me about some shapeshifters in fiction: they're all angsty about having to hid their true form from the public, even though their true form is batter looking then most of the human race and they would have no trouble fitting in (case in point: Mystique).

Isn't Mystique's true form blue and kinda scaly though? Sure, she's blue, scaly and damn pretty, but still blue and scaly. I imagine that would make things tricky if she was to go strolling about looking like herself.

I see no problem with it, as long as they were mature (i.e., not pulling pranks and messing with me all the time and therefor making me paranoid). It's their personality that matters, not looks (atleast, not when their looks are changable ).

I think that'd be a serious problem, actually, they'd wonder if you wanted to be with someone else. Like, imagine your significant other loved having you pretend to be Justin Bieber, with or without shapeshifting.

OTOH, less problematic if you just wanted different looking people, but not anyone in particular. Changing height and proportions and all...though race might be an issue.

Also...um...totally not illegal to have sex with someone that looked like a goat or a 12 year old. I imagine that would be popular, and raise all sorts of awkward questions.

It would depend on a lot of things, like how did it work, what kind of person were they(if they are a person), and what they did with it.

Though if they were actually some kind of cthulhu-spawn who could look like a hot lady, there's still the whole "Eldritch abomination" thing that concerns me.

Or if you found out your spouse was actually a were-(insert animal here) that occasionally goes out and eats the neighborhood stray cats at night, just to throw a interesting hypothetical in there.

At first, I was going to say "fuck yeah"... Then, after really giving it some thought[footnote]Man, them three to five seconds sure do go by fast![/footnote], I would more or less enjoy them more for their "true" personality more than their ability to shape-shift into anyone... I just hope they aren't the "snooping" type or, especially, have trusting issues... because, to me, the latter's suppose to be my joj!

I've always been more of a personality guy, so I'm going to answer no.

The thing is, if a person was born a shapeshifter, they might not even know who they are after they've assumed so many forms and identities. I imagine a shapeshifter just naturally will shapeshift to anything just to impress me or anyone around them, without either of us necessarily realizing it just due to their nature.

On the other hand, if she/it is just a normal person with shapeshifting abilities, I could possibly like the person beyond their outward appearance.
