We probably all have a threshold of where an extreme event will push us into pure instinct territory, who knows what we're capable of in certain situations.

I personally like to think that I've got the guts to do it, but I really cant say for sure until I've been in a situation where I have to.

I think a lot of people in this thread are either lying to themselves or don't comprehend killing someone. I think it's because we see people getting killed in films, TV programmes, pictures and games all the time so we think that it looks easy. The reality of course being that the vast majority of the people who answered that they could kill someone and recover, probably couldn't.

I'm not flaming anyone, I'm just saying that there is a big difference between talking about killing someone and actually doing it and I highly doubt that the majority of you who answered that you could, would be capable of killing and just living happily ever after once you have dealt with it.
^this, oh dear god this...

Only if it was in necessary self-defence and it was a "kill or be killed" situation, or perhaps one of those scenarios like the Hitler one -- i.e. "Would you kill one person to save millions of others?" (Even with the latter, though, I'd have to steel myself. Taking away a life is taking away a life, after all.) Otherwise, no, I'd never kill anybody. Even though a person may deserve to die, there isn't anybody in the world who has the right to make that happen. But that's just what I think. ^_^

Who? A stranger? A guy you hate?

Probably yes, but had to be quick death, like cuting his head of with a Katana.
That seems a little to....up close and personal for me. Id have to do it from a distance with a gun. When you use a sword thats just messy and again really personal.

OT: oh yeah. If someones trying to kill me I have no doubt that I'm going to shoot back.

Just sitting around in my house, cold blooded, for no reason? No, I'd say not.

On the other hand, in a life or death situation where my or a loved-one's survival depended on it? Yes, most certainly.

I am capable of killing a person, and I should know, becease I tried.

When I was little I had to take Ritalin to keep me focused, but there was a side effect, I had a horrible temper. I was incredibly impatient and very quick to piss off. There were periods when I went absolutely berserk, and I would not remember anything because I would black out during the episode.

When I was in third grade, there was an incident in which I did go berserk, but I vaguely remember what I did. I was in the after school program getting ready to leave, I was in horrible mood, more so than I usually was, and a girl insults me. I don't remember what she said but it was the straw that broke camel's back. As soon as she said it I whipped around and proceded to try and strangle her, with a pipe cleaner that was lying around. I got dragged away by the councelors, and was immediately taken off the Ritalin.

After taking me off it I have become a much more patient, kind, compassionate person.

I try not to get angry, because I know what I'm capable of.
i'm the same as you except its not because of medication and i used my hands. plus they didnt even piss me off they were just going along with it.

and snipers probably have it easiest, because they dont have to see the faces of the people near who they kill. i could probably snipe someone.

If someone is trying to kill me or someone I love, I sure as hell am going to try to kill them right back. End of story. Probably wouldn't feel bad about it either.

Anything other then that situation is no I would never kill an innocent person.

heck all i'd need is a slightly reasonable reason to do it and reason to belive i could get away with it. either that or situation where even if i couldn't get away with it it'd be worth it.
even then that doesn't mean i would actually do it in those situations. but it's all i'd need to be able.

I could if I had to. I'd really rather not though, so it'd have to be a pretty damn good reason. Despite what every game-bashing journalist says I can clearly distinguish between real violence and fake violence like in movies and games. One can be fun, the other almost exclusively isn't. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which is which in this case. ^_^

Yeah, I could do it.

But I'm sure as hell better be defending someone and If I have a non-lethal solution to the problem, you bet I'm going to take it.

I would never be able to do it, I wouldn't be able to live with guilt, and I deeply fear if it will have consequences in the afterlife (not trying to start religious debate).

No matter what side they're fighting for, or whether they're a good or bad person, I just wouldn't be able to do it.

Also, by 'could' I mean, could you make yourself do it? As in, WOULD you?
I'd like to think of myself as an optimist and a diplomat first and foremost.

If I was put in a one on one situation with someone labelled as bad, and it was either take him out or have him take out several others, I would always try to negotiate first. I don't believe in a Hollywood reality with absolutes. Yes, there are crazy people in the world but even they have their weaknesses and many of them need to dehumanize their targets before they can kill them.

I would only consider killing the person if we were unable to reach an understanding, and I'd likely apologize for doing it. I wouldn't think of the act as an act of good because I have a strong belief in the right to life for all creatures. Chances are, I'd probably dwell on what got their life to take such a nose dive in the first place. It would more than likely haunt me for years.

Maybe if that person is threatening my family or running at me with a crowbar or something, or that person was recently arrested on charges of murdering an enitre orphanage, with video tapes, witness statemnts, and C.S.I. blood skin semen whatever evidence all showing that that person did it, and an incompetent jury let him go or he got off because of some technicality.

I could probably live with the guilt of killing someone like that, its the actual physical and possible divine punishment I might recieve for murdering sucha person that I'm worried about.

Well, simply put, I have trouble speaking up for my self, let alone even hitting someone.

So no, I would never be able to bring my self to kill someone.

I want to say that I could, but I'd be lying. I mean, I might be able to, but only if the person were John Wayne Gacy or something. I could probably live with myself knowing that the world's a better place without them.

Depends on the method, I'd think. If I had to rip out their eyes with my tongue, then probably not. And anyway, I'd look for an alternative to killing first. That's what I do in video games.

I could say over and over that I could kill somebody but I don't really know if i could or couldnt untill I was in a situation that required me to. I like to think that I couldn't take someones life but if someone i loved was in danger and in the heat of the moment I think I would.

Another factor would be what you have to kill the person with. I think a gun would be easier to kill someone with than a knife or my hands. The question is a little vague. There are so many different possibilities that I don't think anyone can really know until they are in a situation that requires it
