Most people hate their government. That's more or less a fact of the world (it certainly is in the UK). A lot of discussion with my parents or the internet in general, about the current problems in our country normally end with the words "We could do it better than those idiots in charge", and for the most part, we are probably wrong, but at some point there comes a really really stupid law or decision that just seems like our MPs had their heads in the sand when they were at the drawing board for it.

Jeremy Clarkson is a good example of the kind of no-nonsense person you need in a government. Whether you like him or not, he is constantly saying, "When I come to power I'm going to make this a rule". And you know that if he was in power stuff would get done. Instead of the cowardly government the UK at least has. My point is that everyone thinks that they could do a better job than those in charge. Especially when they aren't in a situation to back it up.

So is there a law in your country you would change? Something you would or wouldn't have done when your government made a really poor decision? Or would you just start a random war for giggles? Could you run your country better than it is now?

Personally I'd kick out all illegal immigrants and nuke France for giggles make a "life sentence" for jail mean life, not 25 years (or 12 as is mostly the case).

I have limited knowledge of economics, no knowledge of military procedure, I know enough about human rights to realise what is and what is not pretty outrageous but I have no idea where the line must be drawn to benefit everyone/the vast majority, I know quite a lot about foreign affairs as a bystander.

No, absolutely categorically no I could not do a better - even a good job. The same can be said of most people who claim to be able to do a better job of running an entire country. And I'm only in the UK, think of those countries with even more convoluted politics.

My ideals may be perfect, of course they are. They're ideals.

I'm from Germany. Our actual gouvernment has absolutely no line, works against each other and is just crawling with idiots. Seriously: Fuck them.

So true. I'm not Australian and don't live in Australia but I work for an Australian media company and am constantly bombarded with the inadequacies of both Gillard and Abbott and their respective clown crews.

As to New Zealand - there is a lot of things it's doing wrong but I wouldn't want to be running it. I would certainly like to change a few things. I'd be good in opposition. The current opposition is just awful.

Im more Democratic as of late so I am fine with Obama, as long as were not headed at WW3 I don't truly care. Do I think I could do it any better? Ehh not really as seeing I would be a Democratic president and the Republicans are kinda locked with them on this whole budget idea... Yes I could. First I would devalue the currency so that paying back our debts would be easy; however you have to be quick about this before anyone notices. Then you change the currency to account for hyperinflation. Then we use this masss savings to invest in zeplin technology; which will be used to build atomic zeplins with which to obtain global dominance.

Not really; our country is in a total mess and really, all the main political parties (Labour, Liberals and Conservatives) have had a hand in it. Personally I'd need the power of decree to sort this mess out and there's no way that would happen. Besides, there are a good deal of areas of governance I know nothing about and the rest requires someone a bit more experienced. Still, I doubt I'd be better or worse than the current politicians, many of whom have never worked a day in the real world.

I say we have two options for a perfect government:

Sell Australia to Google, privatize the country.

OR

Disband the political PARTIES. Not the politicians, just the parties. That way we don't vote Liberal or Labor we vote Bob or Steve from our local area. The problem with the current party system is that the individual politicians have no power, they have to go along with the party line or be disbarred. I have a friend in politics who -was- in the liberal party...Until he supported gay rights. Now he no longer has any power. For one vote that he truly believed in.

Having individual politicians would make Common Sense far more likely to prevail.

I'm not gonna sugar-coat this. The eight fucking years of Dubya-dom was a slow and steady testament of both failure in leadership and that of the people for putting him there. That is not a debatable account, but a cold and hard fact. Especially so when you consider how his predecessor (Clinton) was actually beneficial to the country and that the WORST he did was get too close to women whilst MARRIED. Dumb, but not retarded, ya follow?

Many of the current problems in the U.S. are due to the Bush Administration. Trust me when I say that ANYONE can do better than that. And for me, if I WAS put into the Oval Office, I would have words to say that people might want to hear. My first act of office: Restoration, restoration, RESTORATION! Far too much of the country has been spent, wasted, squandered, used up, and taken advantage of. What we need now is several backflips of recovery and staying OUT of other people's affairs for a while.
