If you enjoyed Oblivion, and can deal with the downgrade in combat systems, Morrowind will entertain you.
A real gem of a series was designed by Pirahna Bytes and JoWood. Gothic 1 & 2, then you can play 3 for completion of the story. Gothic 1 & 2 feature one of the best combat systems I have played. The story is full and interesting and the world is large and doesn't limit you with Fable Fences or loading screens.
You have got to be jokeing about Gothic 1 and 2 combat system. It was pretty bad, granted I thought it was better then 3 combat but it wasnt good by any means.Im talking about the melee combat, the bows and magic may have been better.I never used them.
Nope. Not joking. Gothic allowed you to chain attacks and blocks in interesting ways depending on your skill levels, but the primary draw for me is that it relied heavily on YOUR skill level, not straight statistical bashing. My brother elevated it to ridiculous, almost artistic levels, being able to beat nearly any enemy in the game from level zero with a wooden stick simply by knowing how to fight.
Gothic 3 killed it, falling back on mashing the attack button like an overcaffeinated chipmunk.
The ranged combat was severely lacking in the first two games. You locked onto a target and clicked away. 3 improved it dramatically. Actual aiming, real projectiles following parabolic trajectories, critical hit zones varying by enemy, etc.
Magic was fairly well integrated throughout the series but vastly overpowered as a general rule. The top tier spells in 3 were disabled in a patch because of the over the top unfair destruction they caused
