Japan have always seemed to get lots of exclusive games because they don't sell well on this side of the planet - that's my understanding at least.

Its a pain trying to avoid spoilers sometimes with releases that are delayed 3 days behind America, but its not exactly unbearable.

It goes both ways, too. I live in Japan, but there are plenty of Western games that I get gypped out of.

Pro-tip:

You will achieve NOTHING by just bitching about it on the internet.

The only hope you have of making any difference is - I know this sounds weird - write Sony Entertainment a letter. Seriously, an Email would also do because the chances of the CEOs who decide what ends upon PSN from other regions discovering this thread and being so shocked by the comments that they do something... pretty darn low.

I encourage people as many people as possible to contact the relevant Sony department to request information/make requests for certain games.

For a corporate guy it is very hard for them to ignore a letter, it has entered their "world" then, some internet petition is "out there". Letter also shows you are not just making a flippant "Dur, I iz gunna join a boycott" but at at least quite serious to compose a personal message.

And don't stop at one letter or email, keep asking, keep reminding but DON'T be rude or insulting, or snide or insinuate incompetence. Don't give them any excuse to ignore the issue.

But that won't have THAT much effect. End of the day, you can't make companies do anything.

There are a few issues that can affect when and where a particular game is released.

One of the biggest would be language, since if they released games from Japan in the West without translating them, it would be confusing and annoying, and vice versa for Western games to Japan. I also noted a few European gamers frustrated by delayed release dates. Firstly, most of the games are translated in America, which is why they get the games first, and second because, to the best of my knowledge, they only need to translate it into English and possibly Latin American for America (please correct me if I am wrong about this), whereas in Europe you speak many languages in the different countries, and need to have several of these languages to allow the largest amount of people to enjoy these games.

Second, there are some games that, while they may seem interesting to you, may not be profitable to release outside the native culture, because it doesn't appeal to most gamers in other regions, or doesn't make much sense. For example, the Japanese market gets excited over RPGs and such, whereas many many Western players prefer a good FPS. (I realise I am making gross generalisations here, please don't reply with 'I live here and I prefer this genre')

The last point I want to make here is classification. Living in Aus with no R18+ rating, some games are delayed trying to get through classification, or banned outright. The different rating systems and standards used around the world are another reason you may have to wait for, or not get to play, some games.

All that said though, I think the best way around it would be to do away with region locking, so that if people want to play a game not released in their country, or import an early copy from the US, they actually can, and look to the internet for help if they get "lost in translation".

BTW, sorry bout the length of this post, but I think these are important points to keep in mind.

I think it's pretty unfair but we'll get the online games eventually just be patient.

What I really dislike is the retail games that do it.
I bet Another Code Wii still isn't released in the US.
I bet Tatsunoko vs Capcom takes another year to get to the UK
I have friends with Ps3s who want Tales of Vesperia but can't justify buying a 360 for it and it's likely Japan will be the only ones to...hmph

EDIT

Japan has only just got Mass Effect 1
Demon's Souls (I can import but why should I have to)

And the worst thing ever, done by Xbox and I HATE them for it
A german driving game called Crash Time (now has 3 games, all demos on the UK marketplace) and a Japanese strat RPG called Operation Darkness (was once a downloadable demo on UK marketplace but then they deleted it) are not ever going to be released in the UK but we can or could play the demos and they are Xbox exclusive which means no region free...WTF!?
