First they came for our tabletop, but I do not roll any d20's, so I did not speak up.

Seriously, that's like saying that playing Battleship is the equivalent of learning how to apply tactical warfare to sink ships in the pacific. Or that playing Monopoly will lead to you understanding economics. And it's not like any gang that sits down for a good campaign is really gonna get up and shiv some bitches, ya dig?
Actually, it's more akin to saying playing Battleship leads to an understanding of economics. I don't see how DnD and gangs are related at all. Aside from the stabbage, anyway.

You could also argue that basketball teachs inmates how to throw hand grenades, and showers allow prisoners time to smuggle goods from one person to another. ((try not to think about that one to much.))

Everything we do involves team building exercizes. Basketball, football, even chess to a degree teaches you how to plan and organize groups of people. Atleast D&D is fun and non-repetative!

WAITWAITWAIT. Huge issue to start with. Theyer in prison, why are they allowed to even play D&D!?!? Its bad enough we let them live, now they get to have dayly adventures into the realm of fantasy with theyer best friends and anal lovers!?!?

Well, adventurers are often described (technically rightfully) as violent hobos, which is not far from gang members... nah just kidding, the ruling is dumb and the judge probably didn't know a thing about D&D and tabletop RPGs in general other than it makes you worship SATAN!!! I hope the inmates take the case to a higher court or something (don't know that much about justice system). How funny it would be if this went to the supreme court.

Now that you say it, I'd mind going to prison a lot less if it has D&D... :)

not all prisoners are murderers. saying it's "bad enough we let them live" for a marijuana charge, or racketeering, is just wrong.

I was under the impression that D&D would take the inmates' minds off of crime.

... Unless of course every single one of them played a Chaotic Evil lock-picking sneak attack specialist.

So does that mean if you wanna be in a gang you have to start carrying twelve-sided die to show some "street cred"?

I for one think they are correct in this, if you allow D&D we all know what it will lead to...

...LARPing, and no-one want's that in the prison system.

Oh and for nostalgia's sake... [http://www.chick.com/READING/TRACTS/0046/0046_01.ASP]

"Alright, so this is how the robbery is gonna go down boys. Larry! You have the highest skill in machine guns, you'll be our DPS. Tom is a dropout from medical school so he'll be our healer! I'll start firing randomly in the air and draw the cops' attention while Larry guns 'em down. Don't worry Larry, their aggro will be focused mostly on me, I equated the XP we probably will get from the cops and hostages, so halfway through we'll level up, I want you all to spend your attribute points on more health and body armor, then, we'll make a mad rush out the front door, to the car, and escape!

Gentlemen, this couldn't be any easier..."

OT: Do courts really think something like the situation I described above could happen?
.......That is the best post I have ever seen. If Prisoners really turned out like this because of DnD, it would be incredibly easy to keep watch over them. Especially if they try turn based combat with the guards. XD

Well no. Not everyone goes to prison.
There are ofcourse jails for white collar criminals.
When i think of prison, i think of the real prison. Not the pansy ones full of petty theft and first time offenders.

CURSES! They found out my plan of organizing huge groups of prisoners in many different prisons to take over the WORLD! How do they keep finding out about my evil plans like using anime to promote violence and making people into rapists with Bulletstorm!

Wow...so you can even play DnD in prison huh?

One should compile a list with all the cool things you get to do in prison and then we'll be able to show why crime rates are so high in the US.

Honestly, this is an odd ruling.
Agreed.

I have to say it's fucking rediculous but on the other hand.... you're in fucking prison for a reason.

I suppose it could make you more organized or help plan out an escape... Not so sure about gangs though. If they play basketball and one person is the team captain is bask-ball a gang sport too? What if they have a knitting society and plan to organize an event to make everyone scarfs and someone is in charge is that gang activity? What is the criteria here?

Ugh, ridiculous. I'm not sure what there is I can say that hasn't already been said, but really, WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!? You may as well go around and ban all team based sports... Claiming that playing D@D teaches you how to make gangs and break out of prison is idiotic. Why do we hear to much crap about the American legal system all the time?...

Honestly, this is probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard but it's hilarious.
Tag was banned from a lot of schools in my city because it apparently alienates someone and that can have damaging effects. I wish I was joking, and I wish I knew who thought that was logical when they spewed it from the rectum they call their 'mouth'.

No no no no... The courts have it all wrong. D&D doesn't form gangs. Shadowrun forms gangs!

If you want to curb this sort of thing, though, give 'em a copy of Twilight Imperium. TRUST ME.
