In terms of ending Code Geass has pretty much the best ending I ever saw in the entertainment industry.
To this day i say Wolf's Rain ending was best.
I'd rank them Wolf's Rain > Beebop > Geass. However, I think we can all agree that if you're comparing an ending to Wolf's Rain or Geass that's one fucking awesome ending.

Oh yeah, and the movie is definiely worth seeing.

...and since it's been mentioned; I couldn't stand Champloo so your mileage may vary.

The first time I watched the finale, it blew my mind. I love bebop, and Champloo. Other than that, not really an anime fan.

Bebop is a great show. I'd even go as far as calling it one of the greatest anime ever made. But in my own humble opinion, I much prefer Shinichiro Watanabe's other anime, Samurai Champloo. It's a bit lighter in tone than Bebop and it doesn't have any "zany" MAIN characters like Edward, but I guess that's what I like about it. You can clearly tell they're made by the same guy, but at the same time they are VERY different shows.

Honestly, even if you don't agree with my opinion, I strongly suggest checking out Champloo.

Edit: S'pose I should answer your question as well. Like I said, I thoroughly enjoyed Bebop. As for the finale, it was good, but frankly I'm not fond of overly ambiguous endings. Did Spike die? Did he somehow live? Who knows? I prefer happy endings, to be honest. His exit was awesome though.
What this person said^

I watched the whole anime a few months back, and was really moved by the ending. I really recommend you watch Samurai Champloo next.

FMA:B and Code Geass shit all over Cowboy Bebop, and both have better endings. Bebop's good, but 'dat regicide.
So I heard you like Code Geass.

Ontopic: yeah, Cowboy Bebop is probably in my top 3 animes of all times. I watched it what, 8 years ago? The mushroom and yogurt episodes still give me giggles. And the ending was just perfect.

I'm rewatching it now.

The anime is not at all addicting, being episodic makes it lose lots of points. It's like every half episode is a setup where they present new situations and character for the second half.

Spike is one of the most overrated character, he spends 90% of the time trying to act cool. On the other hand the first time I watched the anime I foudn Faye ok, but now I find her an excellent character.

I'm going in episode 9 right now.
That's the point though. The characters aren't constantly dwelling on their pasts. It gets brought up, and is the focal point of some episodes, but they have lives to lead and things to do.

It makes them so much more dynamic when they're not dwelling on about their long lost loves every episode.

Also, it's still way more enjoyable than Bebopp. And while the Escapist will disagree, both MAL and Anidb agree with me.
I agree with you.

Did you just say Brotherhood, with the "MAIN BAD GUY ABSORBED GOD" final battle sequence, had a good ending? If I watch that episode again, I fear it will give me cancer.

While I love FMA:B, the original anime had a more powerful ending, and Bebop certainly did.
The fight is funny more than anything, but everything that happened after gave me all the feels in the world, so yeah it's a great ending.

Bebop's was eh, because I don't care at all about Spike's past.

Just 30 minutes ago, I finished watching the finale of Cowboy Bebop for the first time. I started watching the series during the summer since I wanted to try out anime, and all sources pointed to this show as a starting point

And without spoiling much of the episode to others, the finale made Cowboy Bebop one of the only animated shows aside from Avatar to ache my tear ducts. I never grew up with Toonami as a teenager or was a fan of anime, but after watching this I'm already eager to jump into another anime series. I loved nearly every moment of this show, and I'm planning on watching the Bebop movie sometime soon.

I'd like to know: are there any other fans of Bebop here? When did you first watch it and how did you feel about the finale?
Wait till you see the film Knockin on Heaven's Door. The first scene with Spike and Jet'll have you cracking up.

If the series was a comedy series maybe, but it was trying to pass off "MAIN BAD GUY ABSORBED GOD BECAUSE REASONS" like it was serious. It ranks up there with "MIND CONTROL LASER IN THE MOON" and "I'M SOSUKE AIZEN *****" as the worst moments in Anime history.
In a universe where there is in fact a god-like figure, absorbing its power is actually a huge deal, so I was pretty enthralled. Not nearly as cool, not even in the same stratosphere of cool as the fight with Wrath, but it was fine.

Not sure where the laser in the moon one is from. The only moon laser I know is from Gurren Lagann. I'll guess Sailor Moon.

To this day it will always sadden me that English Edward Elric is an amazing voice actor but the rest of the Japanese cast far outstrips everyone else in the show for me so I watch the sub.
I refuse to believe the japanese VA for Colonel Mustang could do better. Gives me chills in the scene with Lust.

Why would you need convincing? if you dont like the anime, what would convince you otherwise?
Its like "The big Lebowski"...some people love its offbeat characters, unconventional humor and cool style, others dislike its absence of a stringent storyline and so on.
Same here. Some people love the three-dimensional and interesting characters, the deep yet unclicheed and easy-going story and jazzy soundtrack, others dislike the episode structure, the Sci-fi/wild west crossover and the visual design.
I love the anime, but why would I need to convince you, or why would you feel the need to become convinced?
I'm open to convincing that it gets totally better later. You don't NEED to do anything, obviously.
You say that the episodes don't have a storyline but they do. It's kind of like a Bioware RPG in that each character has 3 episodes or so going into their past/character arc. These are scattered throughout the show and slowly but surely you fall in love.

If you make it through the end of episode 5 and are not enthralled i'll be surprised since that's most people's favorite episode and it's also the first episode where you start to learn about the back-stories of crew members (Starting with Spike's).

The second and third episode revolve around gaining crewmembers who you don't know/care about yet and I hate to say it but the fourth episode is my least favorite of all of them. If you were to start again at 4 it might be a slog but it's not that bad of an episode and we're talking about a 20 minute show here.

I'm a fan of the show.

Although, what I'm about to say may disillusion you. I will put it in spoilers in case you don't want to read it.

According to the creator of Cowboy Bebop...
... Spike is not dead at the end of the series. Vicious is. Spike just passed out from exhaustion. In a few hours, Spike will walk out of that room and return to the Bebop like nothing happened.

I fucking love Cowboy Bebop. I got rid of my anime obsession years ago, but CB is the only that I watch with any regularity anymore. The American-release soundtrack is fantastic too.

Speaking of Cowboy Bebop, I'd better pop in the movie sometime soon. Haven't seen it for a while.
