Have you ever gotten a decent game that was actually good and you bought it for like ... $40 ? And then when you beat it and decided it was getting boring , you would wanna sell it. But when you do the cashier only gives you 5 dollars. Has this ever happened to anyone?
I find it to be a load of bull crap.

When it comes to resale value, games are the worst.

By the time you are ready to sell, many other people are too. Or they've already played it.

And then there is disc damage, storage, re-wrapping...

Yes, I gave them back a perfectly good Wii game that I only played about 3 times and I got about 3 bucks for it.
And when I got the GOTY edition of LittleBigPlanet as a birthday present (didn't ask for it, but it was nice to get) I sold the regular edition back to them. I got a whopping 5 bucks for it.
Not as bad as getting 15 bucks for my original XBox, still wish I didn't sell it.

Yeah, Gamestop's resell prices are terrible, for the seller, and they charge about full price for the buyer too.

It's all about the convenience. You can easily make a lot more per game if you go with Ebay or a local classified listing (assuming you're selling something someone will actually want), but you've got to put in a little more effort and be willing to wait. Going to Gamestop pretty much guarantees you less money, but all it takes is a quick trip to the mall.

That said, yeah, I agree that it would be nice if they actually gave you something even close to fair value for your trades.

My brother was a very gifted middle-man in highschool. He bought games for $5 or $10 and sold them for $15, $20, as much as $30. I never went to Electronic Boutique or Blockbuster for trade-ins; my brother would get me two video games for whatever I didn't want anymore.

I understand that concept. I am just tired and fed up with dumb gamestop prices.

Yes, you do get ridiculously little for your games, even though they are in perfect shape (I take good care of my belongings). But, you can sometimes preorder a game for 2 used ones and a euro, which isn't a bad price at all. And Gamestop does have good sails, so I buy all sorts of cheap and potentially bad games then.

How can you sell your games!?!?! I can never get rid of mine...but I know how stores tend to "rip you off" when you sell their games back. BUt they're a buisness, they won't give you more money otherwise they lose money. Even if they gave you the sam amount, it'd be like borrowing and they'd make no money.

well, if you don't like the price they offer for it, don't give it to them. You could make more selling it to a friend.

On an unrelated note, Gamestops in my area are doing something totally disgusting. So it started kind of gradual-they didn't want to sell to you without a phone number. Now they want you to sign up with a free account to earn "rewards points" which you can redeem. But it takes an impossibly high number of these points to actually buy anything, and when you sign up you have to go to a website and create an account to redeem your points. When you do THAT, they ask a bunch of very personal questions and get more of your information.

Finally, you may have noticed a difference between the prices in the store and online. That's right, Gamestop is using BAIT AND SWITCH tactics of raising its in-store prices by a couple bucks TO MAKE UP FOR THE FACT YOU AREN'T PAYING SHIPPING supposedly. That is ridiculous. The whole freaking point of me going to a store to buy a game is that I'm paying for gas and my time to save on shipping. If I'm paying the same price at Gamestop no matter what I do, and I have to jump through a bunch of hoops JUST TO BUY A FREAKING GAME, why should I ever buy a game from Gamestop again? That's what I want to know.

It's just too damn tempting, though they did stiff me on 2 of my Fable 3 preorder bonuses, so I might not preorder from them again, especially not when other retailers like Best Buy and Walmart and even Amazon are also offering preorder bonuses now.

This will happen to anyone that shops at Gamestop or Game depending on where you live. First and foremost the company is there to make money and as much of it as possible. As a result they lower the trade values so that they can get a maximum return profit later.

There is no reason to buy from them really, your points are valid. I hate that I can't buy a game without being asked ten questions and then suffer through some awkwardly forced conversation about what games I might be into. I really have grown to hate them, except for their free rental policy.

50 bucks for Starcraft Battlechest seems like highway robbery these days, especially when everywhere else has it for 20-30.
