My First ps2 game had a crazy character in it. It was Mugetsu from The Bouncer. He was a hard ass cyborg ninja psycho.

Francis York Morgan was the first character that came to mind when I saw the thread title. I especially love the line:

"Do you see that Zach? Clear as a crisp spring morning. FK in the coffee"

And don't forget 80's movies, York and Zach loved their 80's movies.
Nothing like listening to idle chat about Tremors while driving through multiple lampposts.

One time I got so into listening to those chats I ended up running over Sigourney and Kaysen. I lost quite a bit of money doing that. So much fun though.

Vaas Montenegro from Far Cry 3 was pretty crazy, and well written. So, him. Then there's also the Master for Fallout, that guy, wowsers.
Agreed, I actually just picked up and beat FC3 the other day, great game!

Also, I nominate The Illusive Man. You have to be pretty fucking crazy to support the construction of the whole galaxy.

To that, I would also add the main character of FarCry 3, Jason Brody. The crazy hallucinatory boss fights, his slow and arduous descent into savagery (however forced or necessitated), and his eventual ostracism from his own friends that care for him. Not to mention when it's all said and done, Jason Brody is every bit the mass murdering psychopath at the end of the game as Vaas Montenegro is at the beginning. Their drive and motivation might be different, but their actions are eerily similar.

In similar vein, I just finished playing Spec Ops: The Line, and I would add the protagonist Captain Martin Walker to the list. He ends up being even more broken than Vaas or Jason by the end of his journey. If you haven't had a chance to play it yet, I highly recommend it. Just keep in mind that you will feel the insatiable urge to take a shower when you're done with the campaign.

Kain from the red alert games. Not sure if crazy or genius.

HNNNNGH! Sorry! But I have to correct you in order to avoid sullying the prophet's name! K-splargh!

His name is Kane (Kain is the guy from the bible who killed his brother) and he is from the Tiberium series. Red Alert is about the Allies and the Soviets (and later the Asians) while the Tiberium series is about the GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod, duking it out over a ruined planet earth.

And the prophet is not crazy! He is our leader! He is the harbinger of the next stage of evolution. He is THE MESSIAH!

Too bad they basically ruined him and the series with Tiberium Twilight.
