Thanks to Comcast's Watchathon week, I got to see 2011's "Crazy, Stupid, Love." It reminds me of www.cracked.com "After Hours" episode on how rom coms are bad for us.

The movie stars Steve Carell as a middle aged husband dumped by his wife, Julianne Moore because she is bored with him. And for good reason. He has become boring.
This subplot provides the center of the film, but there are others. Ryan Gosling is a player, a ladie's man that takes Carell under his wing to "Miaggi" him on the ways of playing. Complicating for him, he develops real feelings for Emma Stone. As far as comedy goes, for me, Marisa Tomei steals the show as Carell's first real conquest.
The movie is funny enough with interesting characters and situations. The problem is, much of its messages on love are so wrong headed. In real life, people break up and move on. Love can be real, but fail over the longterm. The main characters here (Carell and Moore) seem genuinely bad for each other. It really would be best if they moved on. And again, the movie made me love Torei. I know, review the movie you got not the one you wanted (where Carell runs off with Marisa!) and in that vein, I have to write, Carell and Moore have no chemistry and therefore, the major plot fails.
A slightly smaller message of self examination and relationship building might have saved this movie. As it was, there are many situations worth viewing and if you have some spare time, get some chamomile tea and wassa crips or gin martinis amd Fritos and enjoy some of the mild pleasures and surprises this movie provides. But finish it off with this

to bring you back to reality.

The party he'd organised near the end had my rolling on my sofa laughing, as all the major characters game together and the truth came out I thought was hilarious, something akin to a spaghetti western finale.

Unfortunately it lost its momentum there and should've had some balls and either split them up and recognised that it was over with maybe a hint of love interest and a better life for all of them. Or it should've nailed a better written or well thought out ending.
