"They say we only use 10% of our minds. This is not true. The 10% is simply what we are consciously aware of, everything else is devoted to your subconscious. You can catch a glimpse of the other 90% in your dreams. It's that part of you which governs your personality, preferences, and decides which side of a fight you stand on. In short, everything that makes you you, goes on beneath the surface. You might catch a glimpse of it in your dreams, but if you can learn to truly know yourself, and to harness all those swirling thoughts beneath the surface and focus them, you can make those dreams into reality."
These are the kinds of quotes where I honestly just want to reply with "Source?"
Uh, my head?

Heh, if you look up there, you'll see I edited it slightly because I didn't quite like how that middle part sounded. If I was quoting someone else, I'd have to be crazy to rewrite it. Also, you could google it, nothing will come up.

As for the actual "source," (that is, the inspiration), it's due to a conversation I was having with my brother yesterday. He was saying how he was disappointed with humans in general and thought that as a species we were not very impressive, being overly destructive, cruel at times, etc. I was arguing against that, and we ended up talking about why people are the way they are, with a focus on the subconscious. It's been bubbling around the back of my head, and when I saw this thread, I figured it was as good a time as any to try to put my feelings into words.

That's probably waaaay more specific an answer than you were expecting, (if you were expecting an answer at all, heh).
You have a weird family.
Hey! Just because me and my brother are weird doesn't mean the rest of my family is! Well, I mean, we are all weird, but you shouldn't make assumptions. Besides, weird is fun, normal is boring!

Alternately, since when are philosophical discussions "weird"?

"Women may be the most anxious to get ready for an event, but men take the least time to get ready." I remember when I first told that to my dad and he laughed. I feel a little bad making a sexist remark, but don't worry I'm not a sexist by heart.
It's not really sexist, because it's normally true!

Is anyone else kind of disappointed? About half the quotes here (freely admitted) are not of the poster's creation.

Where are all the infamous Escapist wordsmiths? Does no one feel inspired to create something surprisingly beautiful? Or something devastatingly depressing?

Watching Big Brother is essentially admitting that the most interesting thing you can think to do is watch other people being bored.

I swear, I heard that before...no offense.
Ya probably. It's something that has been used in books and movies a lot. Although i think the particular placement of words is mine.

Everybody has at least something that is weird about them, and if they don't then they are really WEIRD.

"You can only properly judge over someone else's decision if you spend as much time thinking about it as he did"

...at least that sounds logical to me and should work in any possible situation where it could apply.

"We've just made life into a game, with 1000 complex rules. Remember how simple life was? Remember how boring it was? All these rules... no one can understand them all. Each of us has a part of the world in us, but not enough to understand. Hence, just go with the flow! Don't try to understand."
Heh, that's certainly a very chillaxed attitude... I wish I could go with the flow, I'm too curious for my own good, I'm always trying to figure out the "why" AND the "how" (I need both!)
Yes, I look for the how's and why's for things as well, or else I wouldn't have come up with this! But going with the flow can also be bad... sometimes you need to carve your own path! But for me, right now I'm fine with flowing, my life's going pretty good :D"

Another thing I thought of... I agree! I'm usually acting weird or random... I like to crouch slightly, back bent, swinging my arms slightly with a half maniacal grin on my face sometimes... and other such stuff! Also, do we actually have a 'normal'? What is 'normal'? Is it, fitting into one of society's many stereotypes?

There is a difference between "10%" and "10% at a time"

You use all your brain/mind, but not at the same time ;) The 10% thing is just a myth.

I think they're all getting me back for the thread I made a while ago asking if low content replies bothered people... and about a hundred people replied with "no". It's so obvious in hindsight. Also, karma's a *****.
