(Sorry if this kind of thread isn't allowed on The Escapist)

Just read in the news that the Gerry Anderson passed away at the age of 83. I remember watching his Thunderbirds series over and over as a kid, even having the DVDs now. Enjoyed the massive explosions throughout most episodes, especially in the Mighty Atom :D
From what I've read he made other series as well, although I don't recall ever seeing those here on Dutch television. Quality was quite high, it wasn't until much later that I heard that this show was from the sixties - I always thought it was from the eighties or nineties.

What about you guys? You ever watched any of his series?

Aw, I used to have some of the metal Thunderbirds toys, which were awesome. I've watched a couple of the shows and they were pretty sweet.

Man that's sad, I used to love Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlett and Stingray. Those shows where awesome. Explosions, gun fights and sweet vechiles, what more could a kid ask for.

I'm sad to hear that, I loved Thunderbirds and it was a big part of my childhood. Rest in peace Gerry Anderson, know that you leave behind one of the most fondly loved puppet-based t.v. shows.

Captain Scarlet was my favourite of his creations. Gonna have to get that on DVD in the future.

I believe I had some of those metal toys as well.. but then I drove a bunch of them through a play-doh kind of clay and they've been mostly fucked up since :(
However, I also had a ~40 cm TB2 out of plastic. Somehow, it still makes sounds if I press the buttons on it. Those batteries they put in it must be godlike.

Thunderbids was easily my favourite show as a kid. I'm honestly saddened at Gerry's death, but it was his time. I think I still have all my toys boxed up somewhere. Maybe it's time for them to go on display for some time...

EDIT: Favourite episode: Ricochet. Loved the fact that Thunderbird 3 was the rescue vehicle! Although Thudnerbird 2 is still my favourite (I used to have each pod memorized).

+1 I remember having the big green thunderbird that had a smaller yellow submarine like vehicle+ the red rocket like thunderbird.

RIP Gerry Anderson, I also remember Captain Scarlett even if i didn't watch that and he also made a futuristic space cop show with human actors and puppets that was pretty cool to watch as a kid.

Cheers for the good times.

Thunderbirds? You mean this thing?

OT: While I didn't grow up watching his shows, I do know that his was hugely influential in the world of practical effects. Rest in Peace.

I've just done a post about this! Greeat to see how loved his shows were! Thunderbirds was my favourite show ever as a kid! I also loved Stingray, & Captain Scarlet aswell! I still have my Tracy Island! I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have to resort to making the Blue Peter version (who remebers that?).

R.I.P Mr Anderson! Thank-you so much for the memories! FAB!
