The police showed up to an Atlanta Bank of America after getting a 911 call about a potential bank robbery. The suspected bank robber ... Marvel's Black Panther director Ryan Coogler?

The film director showed up to make a simple and discrete withdrawal from his account, but a note given to the teller was confused for a threat.

Ryan tried to take out $12,000 from his account handing the teller a withdrawal slip with note that read, "I would like to withdraw ... Please do the money counter somewhere else. I'd like to be discrete."

The film director didn't want to be noticed and tried to do a simple in and out transaction. The polar opposite transpired.

Soon after the teller walked away with the note, she called police. They arrived at the scene guns drawn as they surrounded the Creed director. Within seconds and without being told why he was being held at gunpoint, Coogler was handcuffed and brought to a squad car outside of the bank.

Coogler tried telling the cops that they have the wrong guy, telling them to check his work badge confirming his identity. He also reportedly told an officer on the scene to "google" his name.

TMZ later obtained the 911 call where the teller calls for help because she "felt threatened." She described Coogler as a black male wearing an all-black get up - he was wearing a black beanie but blue pants and a green sweater.

She told the 911 dispatcher that he slipped her a note asking for money from the bank thinking that he was trying to rob the place for $12,000.

Coogler was able to keep his cool throughout the entire ordeal and was released after being identified. The film director, luckily, didn't have to spend a minute in jail just for making a withdrawal at the bank.

Coogler told reporters on the scene that, "This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on."
These are the moments I think about when people talk smack about BLM, ask me why do I want to move from this country, and tell me that Race isn't as big of an issue as people say.

This man made it. He's worth millions of dollars. He's famous. He did nothing wrong. He did what is apparently very common, and he was still greeted with Firearms.

I'm never going to be a movie star. I won't direct. I'm not going to be famous. I'm just going to be some guy that flies people around.

If the rich and powerful blacks here are still close to catching a fade after providing id, information about his account, the account number, and the card associated with the account... like what the hell is the point? Why are we even trying any more?

'Highlights' of the event include the teller discreetly telling the police officers "good job" for dragging him out in cuffs and the teller telling the police that she didn't even bother checking his id.

Because fuck'em; we don't quit. At least I don't, and neither does my family. We belong just like anyone else. I found about this a few days ago. I posted the video in the ant-woke thread. This is not the first banking while black disaster to occur. I'm glad he did not get hurt or killed, and they let him go immedately. The bank should be sued and whoever made a very bad judgement call should be fired.

Wait, a black person with money? Big money? In cash? Who isn't Obama? No such thing! Call the feds, something ain't right here, this weirdly recognisable lad is suss!

Less flippantly, I understand wanting to be discreet when taking out cash, even like a hundred for me is enough to start side-eyeing everyone around. Well, alright, being truly honest, as little as 10 to 20 is enough to get cautious, but I lived in rough places you know.

You know, my fault. My last message was fatalistic. But not in a despairing way.

I meant why do we even try to do the "right thing" any more?

First it was "Why should I have to show you my ID when I did nothing wrong?!". People (some of which who were on this very forum) said "Look, you're causing yourself problems. If you did nothing wrong, show the ID and we can get on with our lives. You're making this into something it's not"

Then it was "Why are you drawing your gun at me when I'm just yelling at you?!". The same people came around and said "Hey, dude, you're frightening me. You sound aggressive and I am fearing for my life just on this side of the screen. You brought this situation down on your head by acting so combative. If you handled the situation right, all you would have gotten was a light talking to. Reap what you sow."

Next was "I don't have to come with you and I don't need to be handcuffed! Why are you doing this?!" Here comes the same people "Look, the officer is just trying to do his job. He has to suss out the situation. He just needs to make sure the situation is danger free before he can start figuring stuff out. You'll be let go soon. Just comply"

Here is a millionaire. Doing nothing that any bank teller would have found weird if it was done by a white female. Who replied with every request. Who showed id, got answers right, and Oh Yeah, all you had to do was google to see that this man is who he claims to be... who didn't raise his voice. Who didn't make a scene. Who. Did. Nothing. Wrong... and the cops still rolled up on him with their guns drawn.

Who still handcuffed him and put him into the back of the car like it was a done deal.

Who still talked to him handcuffed even though he proved who he was and wasn't belligerent at all. And all the cops just basically said "Hey, be calm. You got your rights violated. You're black, so you should be used to it."

My "Why do we even try any more" is why do we even try to do anything in this society when we're always going to be seen as the threat? Why try to be well-spoken? Why try to be polite and restrained? We're doing right, and we still have to suffer others fucking up. I'm done. I'm now considering "Acting The Fool" as appropriate responses because I'm done being polite and being put in handcuffs so others feel ok. That the beast is restrained.

You're creating more beasts for your comfort, America. This is on you.

Suddenly the message of Jay-Z's song "The Story of O.J." is becoming even more relevant.
