Ok so for once this isn't about the games themselves but about the music that accompanied them. I want to know my fellow escapists thoughts on the scariest damned music in gaming history. (And If you could be so kind mention the scene or track name as well as the game so we could youtube it to join in the fear)

Personally? Most game songs don't frighten, but the one thing that makes my skin crawl is that theme from the legend of Zelda ocarina of time song, The forest temple. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=322V5rD6ko4)

And I've been told by my friends that the lavender town music from Pokemon red is frikken scary (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNJJ-QkZ8cM)

Most people don't dwell on it too much, but the 3D Zeldas really do have a huge market share of creepy, atmospheric dungeon themes. I would consider Lakebed Temple's theme to be the successor to Forest Temple, repetitive-seeming yet driving enough to creep one out, same for Arbiter's Grounds.

Castlevania too:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOTZuQgEF98

Damn unsettling music. It takes effort to make something in an isometric grid game feel creepy, and the music certainly accomplished this. You actually learn very little about the Glow during Fallout 1, but this music alone lets you know that it is a fucked up place. Well, that and the enormous amounts of radiation. This music alone is what made me decided not to listen to a damn thing Mr.House said in Fallout: New Vegas. I figure anyone who has this as their theme isn't going to be giving me the full story, and is probably just manipulating me.

Also, for a game that appears to be nothing more than a physics simulation, World of Goo has some unsettling songs that really set the mood for severel of the levels. A good example of this is Burning Man;

I think this is the theme that plays when Pyramid Head is on screen.

But anyway, it creeps me out.

Can't find a video that shows it properly, but in Silent Hill 2 when the weird siren music plays when you are going down the endless stairs in the Historical Society sure is haunting. Look at the Pyramid Head painting before going down for maximum enjoyment.
