Hmm... A designated clown for every community in the world might brighten things up a bit, but given the ridiculous levels of coulrophobia, it's probably an idea on par with offering people pet spiders, which are apparently also feared to a strange degree.

I still like clowns, though, so good on you, Mr. Northampton Clown.

Predicting it now,

Creepy Clown next mayor of Northampton.

I'd vote for him if I lived there.

In all fairness, the clown isn't even top on the list of reasons not to visit Northampton. Because that place sucks. Northamptonshire as a whole isn't so bad, though/

I'd like to see someone try that here they'd probably get killed in an hour by fire since people would think that the clown was some sort of demon
In America they'd call the police, and then when he "approached the officers" to tell them what he was doing they'd shoot him for "threatening behavior."

Then he'd be on our burgeoning local news segment "Cops = Facepalm."

I never thought my home town would make such viral news for something like this XD

I have seen him once. Seems harmless enough, just stands around at night. Haven't looked into it much. Though the death threats I've seen against him, mainly on facebook are a bit extreme.

I would love it if after a few days he starts appearing with blood on himself and slowly looking more and more deranged but still with that happy smile and demeanor.
I live close to Northampton, and yes...fuck yes...that would definitely give me a reason to actually notice that town for once!
It has been on the news a little around here, though they seem only slightly bemused by the idea that a guy that dresses up as a clown outside of children's parties and genocidal activities can become internationally known.
Maybe this is a clue as to how little effort it takes to become a celebrity.
For now, not scary...just creepy. Still, i bet this guy is on the sex offense register one way or another
I kind of doubt it, most sex offenders should know that they'd be beaten to a pulp if they did this. In reality it's probably someone that was bored and decided to mess around and since no one seems bothered by them will probably keep doing it just for their own amusement.

...He looks friendly!

I mean, most people would get really offended if you took their picture all of a sudden. What a nice guy.

Why are people so afraid of clowns? They're clowns! They're just people in silly make up and funky outfits! Maybe I'm not the one to talk though, I am afraid of Dentists and Dentistry in general. If this where a Creepy Dentist, then I would be afraid.

Me and my friend are working on a theory that it may actually be a bit of viral advertising for an indie sequel/remake/prequel to IT.

But still, it's creepy as fuck

Someone should ask that clown if those balloons float.

You know, just to see what happens.

Wow... This has to be the first time my town has actually popped up on the Escapist.

We have a clown on the loose?
Run. Run. runrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrurnurnrunrurnurnrurnrurnrurnururnrurnrurnrurnurrnurnr.

First of all, get yourself a silver pebble. Or a machine gun. Either works. Then you run. You do not need your family, friends or spouse. Run. Get out of that town. Set it on fire as you leave. Then you run. And as you drive down the highway, lay explosives along it. Do not allow anyone to drive out. The clown could be anyone of them.

Run.

Well, I was just about to go shopping in Northampton today too.

Guess I'll just hide under my bed or something instead.

Many Americans my age saw the movie "It" when they were young and Pennywise scared the absolute shit out of them. Myself, I had to read the book to get over my fear. Good read, btw.

OT: I think he's funny. Scaring people without doing anything really strange is awesome.

If this does turn out to be an IT type situation Northampton's other famous son Alan Moore should be able to handle it, what with being a wizard and all.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Let him work his magic against any and all dark arts that threaten the well being of The Queen!
