A lot of what you say is true. I don't think Sonic was ever intended to be a silent protagonist, and I'm sure he would have had the Genesis been able to support it. After all, he actually did have a voice actor (err...actress) in Sonic CD, and that's one of the earliest games in the franchise.

I can't say I really have a problem with modern Sonic as a character, years of bad voice acting aside. But yeah, classic Sonic steals the show in Generations.

Of course, Sonic is more likeable as a silent protagonist. Think of Charlie Chaplin doing his routines and compare his international success to that of most current high-profile comedians.

Maybe silent protagonists are more likeable because they take less thought to understand.

The thing I think I hate most about The Escapist, is the Sonic fans and how vocal they are about being Sonic fans. The Problem is that while the other fans run around being vocal about Skyrim, or Skyward sword is that none of them are butt hurt. All Sonic fans do is piss and moan about the series and whoa is me type of shit

I love everything else, but Sonic should go away
