That settles it. I am now taking donations for airfare to go kick Shaun White in the balls.

I tried reading 1984 again, to see why I loved it so much.

And now i remember.

Because it fucking scared me to death. Nights have gone by sleeplessly, because I feared an other big Brother might take over.

God, it has made me shit my pants more than most horror stories.

Strangely that doesn't scare me. I am in full control of what I want, and what i don't want. very little I am forced. what did scare me were in 1984 were the newspeak, the deleting of means to express oneself. I believe that is still firmly intact.

This is the first of your comics that I actually didn't get. Can someone fill me in on the reference so I can go and enlighten myself?
Go read George Orwell's 1984. It's an awesome book you should've read already anyway.

OT: very nice, I was just thinking about the Orwellian future a few days ago thanks to that movie Equilibrium

I don't fully get it. Because George Orwell was against autocracy and democratic socialism, he is turning in his grave?
1984 was his dissent against government controlling people's lives.

But then if you're going out to dissent against that to promote corporatism... Yeah... That's just hypocrisy.
Ah, alright. Havn't read the book. Thanks :)

Doubleplusgood! Crimethinkers unbellyfeel Ingsoc crimethink. Thinkpol geted crimethinkers puted joycamp.

Very nice. The whole "revolution" aspect of the game does seem a little shallow, what with the advertising. "Replace the chains of government slavery with the chains of corporate slavery!" Very "revolutionary" indead...

Like the end alot too. When I saw the grave, I knew Orwell would be spinning in it, but I didn't expect the "360 spin - 360 spin - 360 spin - 360 spin!". Doubleplusgoodful!

Sounds a bit similar to Jet Set Radio. Except bad. At least in JSR the government simply wanted to clean up the place, they just went a bit power mad doing it. To the normal citizens of Tokyo-to, I'd say Beat was the villain of that game, skating around and vandalising signs and cars.
Actually having the skateboarders as a way to free the place from tyranny and totalitarianism is just ridiculous.

How does that premise make it to market without someone doing a double-take? Was there simply no liaison between the development and marketing segments of the company at all?

I...what...this...*aneurysm*

Love the comic, truly brutal satire of their(I actually can't think of an adjective which adequately expresses stupidity) concept.

It's good to see skateboarding and consumerism finally being recognized as the noble and important struggle for human rights and freedom they really are. Surely a quality script such as this is a most worthy contribution to the medium of gaming!

...or not.

What a shame. The book was bad, sure, but it didn't deserve to be stripped down in and re-purposed in such a pedestrian way.

at the rate his works have been used and abused, we should connect Orwell's grave to a generator and thus solve the energy crisis

There already is a Big Brother. It's the NWO lol
So, I guess the point of the game is to advertise businesses who are going to take over the government?

George Orwell was almost revolutionarily against totalitarianism... Yet this game makes you set people free from a totalitarian reign through skateboarding and comercialism

That comic should scare you. The fact that you're not scared by it means that you either don't understand how right he is, or you don't live in a part of the world where that is exactly how the population is being controlled (ie, North America).

It took me a second to get the last panel because I was trying to see the Skateboarder but now I realise how dumb that was.

OT: Wasn't the exact same plot of a game a while back but you were a rollerskating graffiti artist or some similar bullshit?
You're thinking of Marc Ecko's: Getting up, I believe. I think. It was similar yes but that was more about Graffiti, which has a much more credible link to revolution/dissent than skateboarding. It was nicely written too but even so it had a lot of product sponsorship which seemed at odds with the game's message. I'd certainly recomend it though.

The fact that Ecko himself is a raging goddamn assbox didn't help matters.
He may also be thinking of Jet Set Radio. Except the thing about JSR was that it was both awesome and cool. It could be a little obnoxious but the entire point of it was to to show how to bring art to the world through means of pressurized, sprayable paint. The figurative "Man" would have simply been the one who didn't allow this free form of expression. And since I am of the persuasion of people who believe that if everything can be painted awesome and intricately, i think we should do it. I do however really hate bad graffiti artists, because i hate to look at just a couple of stupid curvy lines carelessly written on a wall. The reason Shaun White is a tool is because he took what could of been an alright simple "down with the man" story and just put baconators all over it.

To be honest, I clicked my way here only because of the title, so I have to ask: Is this comic about that skateboarding game a parody of sorts or that truly is the premise of the game?
No seriously. You have to fight against the evils of the 'Ministry' which has outlawed fun and emotion. To do this you do rad tricks and sell Baconators.

I wish I was making that up.

You are kidding right?...Right?

OT: Well that sounds...like an interesting game story...
