Mirrors Edge, a million times, Mirrors Edge. Such a beautiful-looking game and a ton of fun to play. Needs a sequel desperately.

Also, the soundtrack was absolutely fucking fantastic.
Level design was craptascular. But, it looked great, controlled well for the most part, had an epic soundtrack and solid story, and even the messed up colour palette worked fairly well.

A sequel just needs to tone down the shiny glare a bit (but don't remove it all), put more emphasis on roof-hopping rather than vent-crawling, and expand combat and enemy evasion a bit.

AVP.

I love this game to death, and while I won't deny that it'll piss you off, it'll make you feel like a badass sometimes, make your pulse actually increase at others, make you feel like a part of a team, make you feel like a ninja, make you feel like a hunter.

Basically, a good match of the newest AVP is as good an online experience as can be had.
add me, BULLET SANDW1CH [if you are on xbox]. i will fuck you up.
I am on Xbox, but why would you want to fuck me up? What have I done to offend you so? Why must you hate me brother?!

WHY CAN'T WE JUST LOVE?!!!

I dunno, if I get to it, I might, but I really don't do 1V1.

The Syndicate FPS.

I don't think it was critically panned getting mostly average to good reviews but it was panned, criticized, and burned at the stake in the court of public opinion.

It's a really solid FPS people with a great co-op. what law is there that says a franchise has to stay exactly the same and can't experiment?

Alone in the dark. Yes the remake for xbox and wii. It was universally panned for trying to do too much but it is one of the most memorable games I have played. The graphics were ok I guess. The aesthetics really worked though. The healing and inventory mechanics did not feel terrible. The story was sub-par to be honest but it really does pick up at the ending. Now the glory of the BEST part of the game...the soundtrack, Easily one of the greatest videogame soundtracks of all time and yet noone has heard it. I keep the entire album in my playlist and oh man is it beautiful.

I looked through the bottom five pages of scores on the list of PC games, and I found a game I have some affection for: Postal 2.

It's very open worldy, the objectives tend to be somewhat amusing and there is something serene about a town that can go from zero to deadly violence that quickly.
I spent so much time as a kid playing the free multiplayer demo... You know it's on GOG for like, $10? I made sure to grab that up. If Postal 3 ever gets cheap, I'll probably grab it, too.

The main one that comes to mind is Metroid Other M. I know it got relatively good scores, but it seemed like everyone and their grandmother hated on the story and the way Samus was portrayed. I didn't think the story was too bad and it's hard to ruin Samus' character when she didn't really have one to begin with. The only gripe for me was the voice acting but even that couldn't detract from the great time I had with the game.

DEAR LORD DO NOT GET POSTAL 3!!
I enjoyed Postal 2 immensely partly because of the sheer stupidity of it all and partly because you can whack peoples heads off with a shovel. But Postal 3 was terrible...no free roam, linear objectives, TERRIBLE and glitchy gameplay and just gets rid of all the "stupid fun" and turns it into "seriously? this is meant to be funny" sorta gameplay.
Postal 2 was amazing and I don't understand why it was so badly received but whatever you do...
DON'T
GET
POSTAL 3!!!

Some curious uses of the word 'panned' in here.

I wouldn't defend it very hard, let alone to the death, but APB:)Reloaded) is a better game than reviews would indicate.

Mirror's Edge. Damn that game is fun. Dunno why people think you can't platform in first person, do you need to stare down at your feet if you wanna jump somewhere irl?
In real life, you have spatial awareness. You can feel your feet; you know where they are. With games, all you have is sight and sound. Everything else is stripped.

I absolutely loved Mirror's Edge, and personally didn't have any trouble with the 1st person platforming so much as just reacting quickly enough, but I can see where people are coming from. Maybe if they took advantage of controller vibrations? Say, as you approach the edge of a platform, the vibrations build and reach a "critical point" just before you reach the end? Obviously, that needs some refining, as you don't want to turn the gameplay into just jumping when the controller shakes, but it's a way to breach the spatial awareness barrier.

Risen and Risen 2. Probably Certainly the best open-world RPGs ever made. Why they received averages of 70 or below in the reviews is an eternal mystery only the Gods themselves can unravel.

Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon is an awesome game. I never got why it got such low scores. My only complaint is that it takes to long to increase armour level.
Agreed, I love that game with all my heart and soul. If only the survival mode allowed to you use ALL the classes instead of just the infantry class. Such a missed opportunity...
I know, why would you make the least interesting class mandatory?

I never got that either. I had a lot of issues finding matches, but yeah, I completely agree on the second part, especially when you are kicking arse as a marine, either in a team or solo, because everybody always targets the marines. Lucky for me, I own as the marine. I suck at both the Xenos and Yautja though, could never get the hang of the jumping about.

Yes the gameplay got repetative, but I loved the gameplay. Switching it up with every different character's ablities, going from a slowmo sniper shot to controling an enemy to making a flame dragon come out of my hand. It was fun.

Mass Effect 3 criticly panned? Really? On metacritic every critic score was green.

I guess you're right about XII, I just hear a lot of bad things about it and how many people don't like it from the forums, I never got why. Bayonetta has been the butt of a lot of things since it was released so I usually mention it. You cannot tell me that X-2 isn't pretty badly panned, I've seen four or five people just on this post defend it. Ditto for Alpha Protocol. And come on. FFXIII? That game has gotten so much flak for the atrocious time sink it turned out to be even though it actually got really good 25 or so hours in. Which I realize doesn't excuse it but for what it's worth it's pretty good.
For what it's worth, there's a difference between critics and the general public. For all the criticism that Bayonetta and the Final Fantasies you listed get, they were received well by critics. (The worst-reviewed of them, FF13, still has a Metacritic average of 83. FF12 and the 360 version of Bayonetta have averages of 90 or higher - high enough to qualify for Metacritic's "Universal Acclaim" label.)

Alpha Protocol, though, was not regarded well by critics at all - that game definitely was critically panned.

Yes, it has stupid AI of "friends" and first levels have too acid colours, but there is awesome music and awesome level design of Greece (and other levels are at least interesting) + epicness - all that times and monsters and weapons.

Also multiplayer is very nice, it was alive on gamespy some time ago

p.s.

Jericho is good, yeah)
Beautiful locations and monsters also

Shell Shock 2 Blood Trails... I really liked that game despite everyone, including critics, saying it was sh*t... There's just something about a perfectly timed melee that sees you ram the butt of a shotgun into a zombies head and see its brains explode...

Yeah, I made an account here just to give a shout out to one of my all-time favorite games that never got enough love; Alpha Protocol. Yes, the game was buggy for many at release (my game played perfectly, so :p) and yes, it was far from a perfect game. But there has never been anything like it, before or since, and it was simply awesome. The story was decent enough, the action was fantastic, the skill system drastically changed how you played and the whole "being a bad-apple spy on the run" thing was just thrilling. I played thru the game 4 times from start to finish and my only regret is that their won't be a sequel. Sadface...

EDIT: Guess I can just add my name to the peoples directly above me! LOL
