I think people get a bit sneers about Braid, and I thought Braid was brilliant.

Assassin's Creed 3. I loved the new setting, the way even basic systems of hiding in crowds or fighting were all revamped to varying degrees, I adored the intense naval battles, but most of all I loved Connor as a character. He was subtle and deep, with interesting conflicts between his loyalty to his tribe and his desire to spread freedom to all. I found it particularly tragic to see him start of so idealistic and hopeful for the future of liberty the Patriots promised only to see them drive his people off their land, especially in that last scene with Charles Lee where you can see that all he has left is illogical rage. The epilogue was a great contrast as well: we see how he has grown, we see him manage to find some pride in what little progress has been made, we see his regret for the mistreatment of his fellow natives, we see how he is still willing to fight injustice in the form of slavery. He had an amazing arc with real change over the course of the game.

But because he wasn't another generically attractive and charismatic extrovert like Ezio or Nathan Drake, the internet consensus is that he's boring. God damn it guys :-(

I quite liked Dragon Age II. Wasn't like the original games, but it did its own unique thing with the story and structure, and I really liked that. Really isn't a whole lot of other games like it.

I also enjoyed COD IV. Yeah, it kick-started the modern MMS craze, but there is a reason the game is oft-imitated, even by other games in the series: it is because it is really freaking good.

Also, Bioshock Infinite, which has been getting a lot of backlash lately, it seems. I never really understood most of the criticisms, I love the game. Additionally, Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, the Halo games, Dead Space II, Fable II, TES IV: Oblivion, Condemned 2, Bioshock II, Fallout 3, Risen, Civilization V, Super Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4, ToZ: Windwaker, Fez, Neverwinter Nights 2, Final Fantasy 8, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, Spyro: A Hero's Tail, and Ratchet: Deadlocked. Think that covers everything...

People always complain that COD games are always exactly the same every year and they never change. First of all this argument that they are the same every year is invalid.By this logic, Mario is the same in every game as is Zelda and AC, BF, Uncharted, Killzone, Halo, do you get the point? They make games in the same series because they are a success and people demand more, but when they get more they complain its "exactly the same"..
..Yes, those all are. The people who make those games constantly get criticised for churning out the same thing wit ha few differences. Sometimes you're a dog but not really, sometimes you can turn little, and sometimes it's actually good. I don't see what your point is; it' a pretty universally known fact among gamer communities and Nintendo's pretty damn desperate.

People didn't seem to like Costume Quest, even though I think it's one of the best things on Xbox Live arcade... which isn't saying a lot, I suppose.

The difference that I see there, is that COD uses exactly the same engine, provides very little in the way of different weapons, mechanics or story and generally just copy pastes onto a new map. I don't see much wrong with that, if people are interested in buying it, they have every right to. The thing is though, having played many of those other games, the sequels really don't wallow in essentially the same pen as the game before it. Granted, there is substantial change, but at least in the case of the first couple of Halos, AC and generally for Zelda (Haven't properly played a game, but I've had family who do, so I'm familiar with the games) they don't change up the formula too much, but they do introduce substantially new areas, the stories aren't note for note re-treads of the previous games and there is a slight shift in certain play aspects compared to the one that came before.

Skyward Sword seems to get a lot of flack from the gaming community. I absolutely loved it. I got it the same time as Skyrim and I had more fun with that than I did Skyrim, which I still enjoy. I was smiling throughout the whole thing.

Also, Bioshock Infinite, which has been getting a lot of backlash, lately.
