Imagine, 360 players and ps3 players going head to head on mw2 or mw3 that is coming out soon. Or even separate players getting on co-op on the dead island game. That way we can stop the abuse of who is better or who has the best system. Though it's a far shot considering too many policies and such x.x

Didn't I hear that rAge was going to have this?

Maybe not, but I swear I have heard 'cross-platform' gaming recently. ... and I'm not so sure its such a good idea. But I'll let the console guys fuss over that when it happens.

Cross-platform is nothing new.

It was attempted with Shadowrun with the 360 and the PC. Clearly it must not have worked out too well since they dropped that pretty much right from the start.

What would be fun is to have a match in a game where everyone on console X is on team 1 and everyone on console Y is on team 2.

Aside from the fact that Sony is opening things up for cross platform play with Valve, it's highly unlikely that cross platform between Microsoft and Sony would be implemented. Sony and Microsoft are in direct competition with each other and allowing cross platform play would remove the incentive to buy their consoles. I know many people who bought an Xbox, not because they liked it, but because that's what their friends have. If you could go cross platform, there would be no need to get an Xbox, thus Microsoft loses money.

TL;DR: It's not a bad idea, but it wont happen because of competition.

i think they are doing it with the new counter strike. ps3 has mouse and keyboard support to make it fair against pc players.

Short story: DUST tried this. Microsoft refused to let it happen because they're assfaces.

Long version is that M$ has problems with games connecting to other servers, and that MMOs of any kind have to go through hoops of fire to become a disjointed branch of said MMO. Only reason Final Fantasy XI pulled it off to where they have 360, PS2, and PC connected to each other was because it was Square, who at the time were actually doing things.

The only game i know which pulled this off well was Final Fantasy XI, that had PC, xbox 360, and the playstation 2 (some people managed to get it working on the ps3 too) all on the same servers with no real differences to them, the only thing you needed if you wanted to play properly on the consoles is a keyboard to chat with as the onscreen keyboard takes forever to type with.

Dude a Xbox 360 Vs Playerstation 3 war . It would be EPIC. Really it's a good idea. Cross over multiplayer, BUT the Xbox 360 users play against Playstation 3 used... Sales would skyrocket ! Dear EA...

PC and console gamers are seldom share multiplayer, since PC gamers have a massive advantage in the form of mouse and keyboard, especially in FPSs. This usually puts console gamers at such a disadvantage that it isn't viable to combine the two. Different consoles seldom share multiplayer, usually because the individual owners of each console don't them to mingle (as they are competitors), as well as the logistical nightmare of just trying to get the two independent networks to function together.

So it's basically never going to happen.

Ok the only way that this would incite even more competition is that each console will have it's own mini tournaments to select the top 6 players for each system. The six players from each system will go head to head and the winners from the tournament will get some kind of prize from the representing company or some mysterious thing. Also come on, people from both sides say we are the best, that other system is crap or some other non-sense, won't it be better if we settle this here and now?
