...Am I the only one who completely missed any sort of connection to the Companion Cube? To me, it was just another cube like the ones I'd been given before, only with hearts on it. Did I just miss something?Cucumber said:1) In Portal, when I incenirated my Companion Cube, a hollow feeling filled me with: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!..."
2) Yah, of course its ok to cry. Only ignorant people would'nt understand!
I personally lived myself into the Portal experience so much that I felt like one with the main character. And GlaDOS constantly tells you that it's your friend. It is also the only thing in the game that actually wont look like it will hurt. I also believe the Cube is the only thing colored with a warm color (pink) in the test chambers. Everything else was just white...orannis62 said:...Am I the only one who completely missed any sort of connection to the Companion Cube? I got as immersed in the Portal experience as anyone else, but I can't empathize with an inanimate cube just because the robot trying to kill me tells me to. If it was the only cube, as in, none of those storage cubes existed, then I'd have felt connected, but to me it was just another cube with the only outstanding things about it being a heart on it and being told to love it. I just don't get it.Cucumber said:I personally lived myself into the Portal experience so much that I felt like one with the main character. And GlaDOS constantly tells you that it's your friend. And thats why I loved the Cube. It really felt like your only friend...
No, I felt that way about the cube to (i.e. didn't feel anything at all).orannis62 said:...Am I the only one who completely missed any sort of connection to the Companion Cube? Well not crying exactly, but around the time Sovereign got killed, I got goosebumps all over my body and felt my eyes get a little sore, kind of like when Sauron's Tower got destroyed. Not because it was sad, per se, but because of its grandiosity and finality of it all.
2) Well, I myself am a tough nut to crack, but yes. There's nothing with crying over a sad scene or the terribleness of the game.
Fair enough. I just wish that I could understand it, because some people I've talked to go on like it was the best relationship in the history of gaming, and I feel like I'm missing out.Cucumber said:...and there is nothing wrong in NOT getting it. I completly understand.
We are all individuals that act and behave diffrently. I don't expect people to feel the same way as I do.
