If you've watched the new trailer for Crysis 2, you're probably aware that the Aliens have been changed from floating annoyances to hulking powerhouses. If you haven't watched the trailer, check it out (It is rather stunning):

What are your thoughts on this change? Do you think it'll change the game for the better, or will these new Aliens be even more annoying than their predecessors?

The trailer reminds me of the gears of war one. The problemi had with the first Crysis, was the helicopters, and the people (who could see you from, say, 200m hiding in the bushes). I never really cared that much about the aliens, and the floating level was 'meh'. I doubt the sequel change much. New weapons, new story, same problems.

I hated those floaty bastards so much. Mostly because it was hard to get a bead on them, and once you did, there was no guarantee you could keep a bead on them and put enough rounds into them to put one down.

I also hated the jumping trigen in Far Cry so this is a theme for me.

Well, they're trying to set a mournful tone, clearly, and the song's about New York. And since the setting's a devastated New York, they probably thought the two went well together. I think it's a decent combination, but there are songs that would be better suited to the footage.

Why are the aliens red now? Werent they purple in warhead?

Hopefully theyll be a little more difficult to kill and require some tactical thinking to take down the bigger ones.

I think the original aliens were meant to be scouts and these are the soldiers.

You say it as if it's a bad thing.

Aliens are freaking aliens, and typically, aliens > humans. If you were expecting one pistol round per alien, then I would say those are pretty pathetic and unintriguing aliens. I liked them because they were tough. I liked them because they acted like they were to evolved for simple legs. No, legs weren't good enough for them. They had to freaking fly around like a levatating squid with chains guns on its head. I liked them because of that. They made you seem like you're a puny, pathetic human, even in that power suit.

I apologize if it sounds like I'm bumraping your opinion with jagged knives, it might have come off as a little too strong, but that is just my opinion.

More OT: It was good...but I really disliked the way the Spec Ops powered armored soldier (gah, I forget their names) looked. His legs were like puny compared to the rest of him.

And the helicopters...Oh, the helicopters. They looked so unnatural.

They look good. I hated those "swimming" aliens. These seem like the one that would be sent into combat.

I can barely hear the Music but it sounds terrible.

OT: Looks like that Crysis 2 Writer did an okay job. Although the trailer looks unoriginal. Brief showing of pictures. A loner guy picking up a picture. Helicopters get ambushed. One guy survives you know the rest.

EMOT: The aliens look a bit overpowered and really hard to kill. Kind of like the Bugs from Starship Troopers.

It was lousy music, wasn't it? Imagine how much better it would have been with the original song. As for the alien redesign, I welcome it. The previous aliens where fairly easy to beat. Consdering how much the first game built them up to be unstoppable, predator badasses in hte beginning, the aliens became a standard fair enemy.

Well, it's a nice trailer, except for the poorly sung music. Looked like our protagonist was getting ready for a Falcon Punch at the end.

One of my minor complaints from Crysis was the aliens and not being so much fun to kill....aside from the Hunters (the giant 4 legged monstrosities). In Crysis 1 they were just no fun to kill, they were tough to point down sometimes due to how agile they were, but fighting them wasn't interesting. The Koreans were fun because their AI made them respond in unique and interesting ways while the aliens just felt rather single minded and you were not given nearly as many fun and creative ways to kill them.

Warhead remedied this a bit by making them work in packs, and they were more in your face and aggressive with a somewhat "holy shit!" factor when fighting them. The smaller guys had this more primal aspect of them from the way the traveled in packs and would lunge at you trying to tear you apart. They could be a whole lot better, but Warhead was heading in the right direction.

These new aliens look terrifying, powerful, and aggressive. They look like the ACTUAL aliens (most of what you fought were just drones, the real onces are the "swimmers" inside the ship) wearing power armor and given an unhealthy does of steroids. they looked like the aliens and cylons fused into one uber awesome enemy. It's too early to tell, but I do hope the new and awesome design isn't the only change. I want these things to be intelligent, mean, and use tactics that are both conventional and unorthodox.

So yea, I like the new design, and hopefully this means more fun to fight enemies.

I'm still debating with myself if thats CGI or in-game graphics. I want to say its CGI, but since this is Crysis, one of the most graphically advanced games ever in the history of games, I'm not sure...

OT: Eh, hopefully they're fun to fight.

I remember going through the ship in 0g, dodging around fighting the little bastards. Man that was fun...

I'm pretty sure it's at least close to in-game graphics.

Take for example:

- PS3 version of Crysis 2

That's supposedly working on mid-play graphics. Now, if they're telling the truth and they've massively streamlined the Crytek 3 engine, then we're looking at all but photorealistic settings even on the consoles.

Impressive stuff.

OT: I want more physically powerful enemies. Being able to grab them by the throat and snap them like a twig makes them so much less threatening.
