I just bought this game and the engine has so much potential so why did they have to make this game so bad?(bad, bad. Not MJ bad)

At first you figure it's some Halo kind of game. One man army in a robot suit beating up everyone and saving the day. Except that the first thing you see when you start the game is 3 other guy's. All wearing the same suit. The same skin tight leave-nothing-to-the-imagination-suit. 4 buff men in the cargo hold of a plane in skin tight suits. All of a sudden my semi religious upraising is telling me I really have to get out of this plane. Parachute or not I did'nt care. I just threw myself out of the plane and ofcourse paid the price and ended up smashing head first into the sea. And so the game starts

The player is the one wearing a multi million dollar, exosceleton, black ops, body armor suit yet the Korean conscripts you fight seem to have more armor and health than you.

You can run up to an enemy and empty half a mag into his torso and he doesnt even flinch.

You can have a sniper scope on and shoot and enemy 12-15 times in the back with 7.62 mm ammo and it does'nt kill him. He just walks around complaining that he is under attack.

The inaccuracy added for realism a'la counterstrike means that full auto is allways useless. It's not that the weapon "gets away" from you when you fire. They just added that the bullets miss alot. So you can keep the aim dead on an enemy and fire full auto and not a single bullet hits.

The only way to hit an enemy is either to get so close that you can insert the weapon into him. Then shoot. or crouch and then switch your weapon to single fire and then carefuly put 7-10 shots into every enemy. One shot at a time. By the way my super secret black ops multi million dollar rifle has single fire and full auto. No 3 round burst option setting.

The computer controled enemies however have no problems hiting what they aim for. They can run across a field while fireing fully automatic and they hit you from 200 meters while you're behind cover

The game is made for that "jungle commando" crap they feed you through the rambo films. The problem is that when the jungle is entirely covered in bushes, shrubbery, plants and trees. It makes it really hard for you to see and aim at the enemy. The enemy however has no such problems. They are after all, computer controled and like on all these games they see through all forms of bushes and trees and fire through them at you.

The game also has 4 different "power" settings for your character. Basicly you can choose between super strength, super armor, super speed or cloak. The strength is so you can jump high and punch hard. the speed makes you run really fast. In the intro for the game the character runs up to 3 enemies. shoot 2 and punch one to the ground. The problem is that if you have any of the settings on other than "super armor" then you will be shot dead near instantly by the enemy. The cloak lasts a maximum of 10 seconds during movement before you run out of energy and need to recharge.

I also had some problem with the super speed where I ran and jumped over a barrel. Apparantly I nudged the barrel with my foot causing it to roll. As the barrel slowly rolled towards me I did'nt give it much thought until it touched me and I was killed instantly with the kind of impact power you recive from being hit by a truck coming at 100 km/h.

Apparantly the "hero" also seems to posses a secret power. The hairy palm, iron grip. Where whatever he holds, instantly dies. If you pick up an enemy soldier then carefully set him down. He dies. If you take a hold of an enemy flying droid, then set it free. It will drop to the ground dead.

No doubt the result of rigorous training in the cargo hold before the game started.

First off, koreans do not have more health and armour than you. Plus there are mods out there which alter this problem that many people seem inclined to whine about. besides this game being set in about 12 years time, we can assume body armour has advanced a little bit.

Secondly, this seems to be more of a rant/moan than a review. Every paragraph is riddled with more negative comments than my old school reports.

The jungle is actually quite light. Maybe you have never seen a picture of real jungle but the ones in Crysis are actually very light. Also the enemy can't see through bushes and fire at you because otherwise you wouldn't be able to hide in bushes like I did. Again you are wrong with the sniper because I massacred hundreds of Koreans and the only time they survive is when you hit their leg.
*Also very few games have a 3 round burst option because so few actual guns have them.
*If you have ever fired a rifle on full auto you will realise that it is wildly inaccurate and so firing just 2-3 rounds a shot is far better.
*your barrel trouble would seems to me like a glitch.
*The secret power is actually squeezing the jugular vein depriving the brain of oxygen. And as for the alien machiens, I would assume you break an all important circuit.
Crysis was never perfect but it looked brilliant and I found the gameplay perfectly adequate compared to CoD4 etc.

How old school can they be? You have been here for 5 days.

I was going comment on some of your supposed old school reports but all I found by you was 9 one liners. The post in this thread and your review on Bioshock [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.55651#407601] Which looked more like an attempt at masonry than a review.

Ahem you have been here for 1. Also my bioshock review was more of a test to see how people like to see reviews presented. And at least it didn't take a pathetically small amount of faults and act as if the entire game was ruined. However chunky it may have been, at least it wasn't entirely composed of whining crap that would shame theindecisivegamer - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.55709.

And what did you think school reports meant? Comments on threads are not school reports.

And thus did this thread descend into a war of flame. Tut tut tut.

Anyway, I thought your review was alright, though it just seemed to tell me things I already knew. You should probably mention the storyline, the controls, what you thought was good and what you thought was bad. Don't rant quite as much either, it's supposed to be a review. By all means, complain but give reasons for your complaint.

After reading this review, I am no more informed than I was before I read it. Could have been better.

P.M.

I think bamforth was referring to his class reports, from when he was at school.

It's odd, I keep seeing people with this apparent 'can't kill the Koreans' problem in Crysis, but I never had a problem with it. See them, shoot them.

I guess Crysis falls in to the 'love it or hate it' category.

Crysis wasn't bad by any strech of the imagination...

I thought is was brilliant, it does have potential to be a better game but for what it is its pure gold...

And the British character doesn't die, which is always a bonus...

I wanted to be the British character... *sigh*
