Tonight I came across an advertisement.
Justin Beiber will star in the new series of CSI.

Now, before this becomes a Beiber hate thread, I would like to state that this only caused me to ponder, what is it with musicians (pop singers count) becoming actors. It happened to every Disney kid before they fell out of media spotlight, it even happened to Ozzy (how long did that reality show run?). My point being, is there a reason for people to expand into other medias where they may not truly have any talent, other than for money or merchandising?

I personally think that if your a good singer then that should be your area of focus. If your a good actor, don't release an album unless you truly can sing.

$$$ I'd do it too. I'm pretty sure the piles of money would drown out the people yelling "SELL OUT!" pretty damn quick.

"I can sing and I'm in all those music videos, I should be in the movies too!"
- Generic Pop Star #26

Because why not? If I became a sports star or a musician or even a freaking internet meme, I would instantly cash in on my celebrity status and jump to film.

"I got professional singing lessons for that musical I was in and I've always had a great voice, I should cut an album!"
- Generic Actor #43 / Generic Actress #17

So most actors suck pretty badly at singing but why not? If they think they can, who's to stop them? Besides, there have been a couple of good examples of actors making a great song, like Eddie Murphy's Party All the Time and Joe Pesci's Wiseguy.

You're damn right. But there is no way you would turn down a bucketload of cash if given the chance.

I hope he gets raped. And then has his face smashed in with a sledgehammer. And then is set on fire. And then encased in concrete. And then dropped to the bottom of the ocean. I would watch that episode.

I'd rather they just drowned Bieber.
Even if they did it in money it would be worth it.

Which makes me wonder if anyone has been physically killed by money before...

Who cares?
It's called Life Experience, if someone came to you and said "Hey bucko, come hang glide for a year" or some other option of interest to you.
I doubt you'd refuse.

The little squirt gets offered a shot in CSI, big whoop. He may have wanted to act for a long time, alot of the performs went to theatrical schools and probably have some experience doing it anyway.
He gets phat cash and a chance to do some acting for a change.

I'd roll with it.

I do not approve of "you're a singer, you sing" attitude.

Beiber (no matter how much he irks me) is.... alright in singing but I agree that he shouldn't be acting as well. Focus one thing, that's it. End of story.

I don't get the issue with it, either. There have been several successful cross over stars (Ice T., Jared Leto is a reverse example) and numerous instances of people "playing themselves" as cameos. They've had Kim Kardashian and Train on CSI: NY before, and the Train episode was pretty good.

Maybe chocking on coins? That doesn't sound too unbelievable.

I remember seeing Felicia Day on an episode of House. Probably just trying to show they have versatility or something.
