Meh, Shub-Niggurath is better. Also, Nyarlathotep.Daystar Clarion said:I prefer Shuma Gorath.

I prefer Shuma Gorath.
Deal with it.

I don't get it. Nyarlathotep is typically portrayed either as a Nikola Tesla style figure, an Egyptian pharaoh, or a vaguely humanoid twisting mass of flesh and tentacles the likes of which our minds have difficulty even comprehending.Kopikatsu said:I'm a fan of Nyarlathotep myself.
I don't really understand where you post came from, but I'm assuming it had to do with my posting a picture of an anime girl? The Madman said:I don't get it. I like the Tesla one myself. This wandering 'showman' who's displays of alien power leae the audience amazed yet strangely unsettled, feeling like they'd just witnessed something that should not have ever been.
"I had never heard the name NYARLATHOTEP before, but seemed to understand the allusion. Nyarlathotep was a kind of itinerant showman or lecturer who held forth in public halls and aroused widespread fear and discussion with his exhibitions. These exhibitions consisted of two parts ? first, a horrible ? possibly prophetic ? cinema reel; and later some extraordinary experiments with scientific and electrical apparatus. As I received the letter, I seemed to recall that Nyarlathotep was already in Providence.... I seemed to remember that persons had whispered to me in awe of his horrors, and warned me not to go near him. But Loveman's dream letter decided me.... As I left the house I saw throngs of men plodding through the night, all whispering affrightedly and bound in one direction. I fell in with them, afraid yet eager to see and hear the great, the obscure, the unutterable Nyarlathotep"
So she's an anime character that says her name is Nyarlathotep because she once knew a guy who inspired Lovecraft to make the character Nyarlathotep?Kopikatsu said:If so, the picture I posted is Nyarlathotep as it appears in Haiyore! Basically, I was making a joke.
Nyarlathotepian Alien. They're an alien species from some other planet. The Madman said:So she's an anime character that says her name is Nyarlathotep because she once knew a guy who inspired Lovecraft to make the character Nyarlathotep?Kopikatsu said:If so, the picture I posted is Nyarlathotep as it appears in Haiyore! ... okay. I guess. The reference just went straight over my head obviously.
It says a lot when we're talking about Lovecraftian horror, something intentionally meant to be vague and obtuse, and it's anime that's got me all confused.Kopikatsu said:Nyarlathotepian Alien. They're an alien species from some other planet.
Anime is weird that way.
Insanity, gore, and tentacles? Japanese people love those things! Just look at Elfen Lied or Saya no Uta [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saya_no_Uta]. Especially that second one.The Madman said:It says a lot when we're talking about Lovecraftian horror, something intentionally meant to be vague and obtuse, and it's anime that's got me all confused.Kopikatsu said:Nyarlathotepian Alien. Frankly I always figured Lovecraft would be big in Japan what with the tentacles and all. But then I guess the imminent insanity and gruesome violent demise can be a bit of a turn-off, nevermind the existential questioning.
I'll take your word for it, rather not click any link that pops up when the words insanity, gore and tentacles are mentioned if that's alright. I'm quirky that way, even if it is wikipedia.Kopikatsu said:Insanity, gore, and tentacles? Japanese people love those things! (How did a lovecraftian horror thread turn into an anime thing?)
