If you're a fan of Final Fantasy XII, get this game. You'll see how it is similar in graphical style, characterization, music and atmosphere. Stick with Weapons crafting, it's cumbersome at first but you'll eventually end up with a specialised weapon for each type of monster that will allow you to take down previously tough bosses with just a handful of well-timed attacks. This is one of the most cinematic games around, very reminiscent of MGS cutscenes but with less drivel (or at least more fantasy-based drivel, depending on your point of view).

For the sake of a fiver, I ask people to play this game. It had a (for the time) unique fighting system and allowed for strategy and combat at the same time. The puzzles were decent too if I remember correctly.

It also spawned one of my favourite gaming quotes "Reinforcements, I AM the reinforcements!".

Fond memories of this game. Like accidentally breaking down my sword into it's constituent parts at the first work bench when trying to figure out what the crafting system was and dying repeatedly in the timed bit of the cave (was it timed? I seem to remember repeatedly falling when the floor gave out).

I've really enjoyed all of the FF games set in Ivalice so far, so I'll definitely pick this one up.

What the....?

But... this has been out for like over a year on the Australian PSN. I bought it, played it for 30 minutes, thought "Hey, this game is pretty cool, I must get around to it some day" and then left it. Why an earth are the Americans only getting it now? :/

Remember to the newbs: it's all about managing Risk. Take off your weapons and your Risk goes down faster. You need low Risk, (like below 30 or so), to do good dmg. You also save items reducing Risk that way. You need items for big boss battles. Also, keep your stuff in good repair (duh) so you can maximize dmg. This game is one of my favs, ICYDK. hehe!
Actually Risk increases damage, but it lowers your accuracy. Also, manage your PP since the more you have the higher damage you can do, but it decreases every time you fix a weapon. And pick a weapon and use it exclusively on one enemy type for it, use your silver weapons for undead/phantoms, frequently use buff spells, frequently switch out gems to maximize elemental/affinity damage, and never, ever, ever fight a boss with anything less than full health and MP (they regenerate, so don't rush). This game has some of the most punishing difficulty in a Square game. You know you're obsessive when you have Dread equipment, have at least one attribute maxed per weapon, can two-shot Kali, and have gotten Holy Wins and Rhompaias.

True, but the newbie that go rushing in with high Risk are going to get stomped. That's why I suggested to reduce Risk before you fight, and control it during a fight. Crit strikes seldom won my battles for me in VS. I found that I did more consistent damage per strike with lower Risk. As to the other stuff you mentioned, yeah. Two-shotting Kali is ridiculous. How'd you do that? (High Risk? ;p)
