Cure for Cancer

Now I'm sure some of you have seen articles about this or heard about it, but Canadian scientists have found a cure for cancer. However, as stated in this article: http://hubpages.com/hub/Scientists_cure_cancer__but_no_one_takes_notice, pharmaceutical companies don't care because this cure is cheap to produce and distribute and it can't be patented, which means there is little money to be made with it. Now I have two discussions here.

The first: What is your reaction to essentially no, at least American companies giving anything close to a rat's ass about this because of its lack of monetary gain. I am just wondering how outraged people are about this. I think it's disgusting and makes me sick to say I'm American to be honest.

The second: Do you think a cure like this should be handed out to people with a history of doing habitual cancer causing activities. I don't mean people working in mines for example getting lung cancer. They obviously deserve to be first in line for this. I mean people who are life long smokers. I feel like while all people deserve to have this, habitual smokers will now think there is nothing wrong with smoking and never stop, despite the whole festival of other problems smoking brings to your body. I think will bring about a massive increase in the smoking population, so should habitual smokers who have made no attempts to quit be handed this cure as easily as others?

On topic.

1. Companies are companies. If you expect a corporation to throw away money so that they can feel better about themselves then you're dumb.

2. Denying medical treatment to people because of their habits isn't going to happen. Drunk drivers who get into fatal (for others) accidents and survive get treatment, gunmen who get shot and survive get treatment, denying people treatment for smoking (regardless of how much they do or don't deserve it) isn't going happen. Especially not in the wonderful system of private health care.

There was in fact two threads previously about this. Cancer has many different forms and causes. I do not believe there will not be one cure all drug, the drug mentioned in the article, for example, is already known and used in medicine, just not for curing cancer, and as far as I could tell, it seems to be really effective at helping fight brain tumors, but I am unsure about other forms of cancer.

Also, link doesn't work anymore, the article must have been removed. Is that a good or bad sign?

You might want to do some fact checking next time. This "cure" is known to cause live cancer.

I have had cancer and it had no known cause. People can get cancer without doing fucked up things to their body.

If anything, if there was a cure for cancer, the pharmaceutical companies would seize the opportunity to sell that shit for exorbitant prices. They wouldn't just ignore it, but they would make it hella expensive. And not just because it's a cure for cancer: everything those companies sell is super fucking expensive. I get shots to increase my blood counts and they go for hundreds of dollars a shot.
