Have you ever tried it? If so, in what style, and were you happy with it?

I haven't cut my hair in at least a few years and part of me just wants to hack away at it until it takes the shape of something practical. I'm bored and I love the feel of soft, freshly-cut hair. Okay, I probably won't hack away at it, I'd do it carefully, and I'd want it to look nice.

I don't think hairdressers are always better, it's just that they're efficient and satisfaction is more probable because most people assume hairdressers are arbiters of taste. Part of me wants to still look neat and everything though. I don't know. I feel silly either way. *toys with scissors*

I always 'cut' my own hair... granted, it's just running clippers over my head a few times to get an even number 2.

Doing the top of my neck can be a pain though.

I tried it once. It looked easy, but I screwed it up so bad I had to wait a few weeks for a hairdresser to fix it. So yeah, never trying that again...

I wouldn't recommend it, hairdressers can see the back of your head and what they are doing to it.

I've never cut my own hair. But then again, my hair rarely does anything useful, and it has nothing to do with length. If my hair had a personality it would be something between bipolar and eccentric; it can be flat, fluffy, shapeless, spiky, wavy, curly, frizzy, nerd-neat, etc.

So I tend to let it grow to about ... I dunno 2-3 inches maybe (? I'm bad with lengths), then get it cut to about 1 inch, then let it grow again. I figure, if something looks nice without it being excessively long, then I'm bound to get it for at least one day during that growing period.

True, they can cut it back to an inch or so without having their sexuality questioned or looking drastically different. I could do that if I screwed up too, but I'd possibly be mistaken for a fifteen year-old boy in some clothes, which isn't generally attractive to the opposite sex.

I do it all the time. I just set the clippers to either 2 or 3 depending on the time of year and go to town. It's something that needs to be done again, too. My hair is getting a bit shaggy.

I let my hair grow until it inconviences me, then get it cut short, and the cycle begins anew. If I had any skill with scissors I'd cut my fringe and the hair that covers my ears and leave it at that, since I prefer longer hair at the back. /Care about fashion.

I never have, it's far too long for me to be able to do anything remotely resembling a capable job.

I want to get it done shorter soon, this long hair thing is a phase I'm quickly growing out of.

(By the way, does anyone have any suggestions for fairly short male hair?)

I trimmed my bangs once, because I was too cheap to get a haircut just for that. I just did a little research first, and everything turned out fine.

Used to do it quite regularly. Never turned out great, but my ex used to undo the damage...and that's how I got haircuts.
