maybe thats why you shouldnt put awful songs on the internet or if you have to be prepared.
I would never have done that, but Star Wars-kid for instance had footage of him swinging a golf ball retriever put on the Internet against his will and knowledge.

In July 2003, the student's family filed a CA$250,000 lawsuit against the families of four of his schoolmates. The lawsuit stated in part that he "had to endure, and still endures today, harassment and derision from his high-school mates and the public at large" and "will be under psychiatric care for an indefinite amount of time."

Trust me, getting punched in the face every day for a time in high school is much better than real cyberbullying.

I cant sympathize with those who are "cyberbullied" it doesnt seem that bad. Maybe you shouldnt be giving out your personal info to so many people?

Im sure abc fam is going to dramatize the shit out of it though, same as lifetime.
Teenagers aren't the most rational bunch and are vulnerable compared to adults

Moral of the story: Kids can be cruel.
Yep. It really bothers me when people talk about childhood innocence like its the most sacred thing in the world.

Children are no more innocent than you are

a few things
1. Kids are inherently assholes and there is nothing you can do about that, just let them be kids. I do think that you should intervene if something is happening though. (I was a kid who was bullied)
2. I really doubt that an ABC Family movie will cause a teenager to suddenly "see the light" and stop being a cyber-bully.
agreed

but number 3 : if you can't take abuse and threats then you shouldn't be on the net

I'd watch this. Of course you shouldn't take what people online say about you seriously at all, I mean, they know pretty much nothing about you, so why should one care. But some people who are too young, or too sensitive do, and they can't help it so much, or choose not to.

This movie, at best will make parents try to be more aware of what their children are doing online, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it won't stop the "cyberbullying." Nothing will. It'll be there as long as there is internet.

I cant see how Cyberbullying could be a problem. Once a douchebag started insulting me in an online chatroom. You know what I did? I put him on ignore just like everyone should do with "cyberbullies".

In Cyberspace, I am not sure I can think of a game or service that doesn't let you block messages from certain people, and even if you can't, you can always see that the message came from said bully and just ignore it?

If I am missing something, please (politely) enlighten me, but this just doesn't seem like a big deal from where I stand.
Why is everyone is this thread assuming "cyberbullying" means getting your anonymous alias flamed? Cyberbullying is what happened to Star Wars-kid, Rick Astley, Rebecca Black, and in many smaller ways to children (and adults) who use services like Youtube, Facebook or run a blog. Trust me, if everyone is ridiculing you (your name, your face) online; you have a bright target painted on your back in everyday life as well. Everyone you know will know that people mock you on the Internet. And the mocking never stops. In real life you can run away from the bullies and the bullying stops. It ceases to exist the moment you are gone. But on the Internet there is no running away. And when Rebecca Black hits forty someone she just met might suddenly remember the video or hear "That's that girl that sang the awful song every laughed at for months", and then the ridicule (which was basically everyone on planet Earth mocking one 13 year old) she faced when she was 13 starts all over again.
Ok, that does indeed sound worse, however, this sounds more like "fame-bullying" or something. This kind of thing is the result of popularity and being seen by a lot of people. It does not necessarily require the internet at all. This is the result of a lot of people seeing something that you did and making fun of you for it. Starring in a terrible movie seems like another way for this to happen, and the internet need not be involved.

Sure, I agree that this kind of stuff can be bad, but there is a dark side to fame. With popularity and stardom comes the fact that some people won't like it, and will make fun of it. President Bush probably got a lot of this similar grief, and the internet was not required; all it took was a television.

Welcome to the internet my young friend! There are many wonders I can show you!
Call me the Willy Wonka of the internet!
As you can see, we're entering the Social Networking Forest. A fresh picture has bloomed. It's that girl you like, and she's kissing some douchebag.
Oh look kids! The Trolls! Watch as they sing a song to you.
*many expletives and racial slurs later*
Traumatized yet? You are? Well grow a pair! Cause you get nothing!

Hm. I could not care less.
My only opinion on cyber bullying is that if they care so fucking much what anonymous assholes on the internet say, than get the FUCK OF THE INTERNET.
People are going to be assholes no matter what, so if you can't deal with it, leave.

I have no problem with anyone wanting to approach this subject, however I am fairly certain they are going to completely misrepresent and misinterpret things at the expense of the Internet--just because it's such a huge, ambiguous, and misunderstood target. I'd wager a million dollars the moral of the story is going to be something like "keep your kids off the Internet" rather than "teach your kids not to be total jerkwads to others."

I love how they say they want to combat cyber-bullying. How exactly? do they want to make it illegal to talk shit about someone online? Have they ever heard of the First Amendment?

If you don't like what some asshole is saying, go to a different site. Maybe that's what we should be teaching our kids, to walk away.
How about teaching kids to respect each other instead? Problem solved. Also, First Amendment is a weak excuse that gets abused to, exactly, accomplish bullying.

Does cyberbullying really need anymore time in the spot light? I myself think that phsyical bullying may be worse than anything done over the internet, but I digress.
I think cyberbullying is just as bad or even worse than physical bullying. I mean atleast you get a rest from normal bullying when you go home. But with cyberbullying you never get a rest. Its on any social network you use, any instant messaging and even your cell phone. Its always there. Then not too mention with cyberbullying it gives the bully the ability to be in your face 24/7 and have more reach to get other people to bully you, and there really isn't much you can do about it. You just can't beat the crap out of them and tell them to stop. That would be like trying to kill a troll argument with logical answers. Plus cyberbullying usually isn't just on the internet or other forms of media it also comes with physical bullying, and I believe it is that combination of the two that makes it worse. Just imagine going to school being physically bullied and laughed at by the comments or other incidents someone spread about you on the internet the night before. Then you go home and try to talk to your own friends maybe only one friend or even just hoping someone will be your friend and dealing with the hate and bullying there too.

TL;DR: Cyberbullying is just as bad if not worse than physical bullying because cyberbullying isn't usually by itself and is paired with physical. It gives you no rest and truly makes you feel alone. It gives the feeling that no one likes you in real life or on the internet.

You don't know kids that well do you? It's all nice to think sunshine and rainbows, peace, love and harmony, can't we all just get along, etc., etc.. But that's not how the real world works. Get over it. If someone's teasing you, grow a thicker skin.

Cyberbullying is a non thing. It really isn't compared to real physical bullying cyberbullying is ignorable and pointless. Whats scarier a group of kids shoving you and harassing you that you cannot physically escape because your in the same class as them. Or someone calling you a fag online? Cyberbullying is just a media buzzword for kids being assholes, and kids are assholes, but the internet is not the venue of choice for any bully. You cannot intimidate someone on the other side of a screen, you cannot extort from them ect ect.
