I know it's been said in this thread before, but I believe it bears mentioning again. I don't see the deal with cyberbullying. It doesn't equate to being bullied in real life.

I completely thought that the whole idea of cyberbulling was just a dumb fad by overly concerned, overly sensitive idiots.
Turns out, it was.

personally i cant understand how someone can be affected by cyberbullying alone. how do people cyberbully? can someone explain to me what a cyberbulyl is?

send insults as text messages? block there numbers
send insults as emails? spam filter their email address
send messages on fceebook? unfriend them

or just ignore them. i dont think even once in my entire like 13 or 14 years from preschool to year 12 that i once got upset over someone calling me names and dont get it wrong i was called names all the time. i was the new kid for a while, plus fat plus have a bird like nose.

so i can not understand how impersonal insults across the internet can affect people so badly that they kill or harm themselves.

Yes, because it is so terribly hard to find out someone's mobile number or someone's facebook/myspace account in Highschool. Do only incredibly close and trusted friends know your phone number? I doubt it. Do only incredibly close and trusted friends know your facebook account? Once again, I doubt it.

Ok, I've seen many cases of cyberbullying and yes it's completely blown out of proportion. What is stopping you from clicking the block button or just ignoring in general?

I still have no idea how someone could be affected enough by someone on the Internet (who you probably don't even know) to commit suicide. Why would you get your panties in a wad about what some d-bag says on the Internet?

If everyone took to heart what everyone else said to them on the Internet, everyone would be dead.

John Hughes made a living off of addressing the lives of children no matter how tangential or real the problem they were actually having were.

And while I don't really like John Hughes works I wouldn't rebuke anyone who decided to go down that path. Although with ABC's skill it will probably be more dramatic than educational on a sociological level.

The whole idea of people committing suicide becasue of bullies always got on my nerves. Is getting picked on really that bad? If it is, f***** punch the guy in the nuts.
Not trying to cause a problem or anything, but from my point of view, this is a bit of a silly statement, some people can't escape it really. I remember, not but a few years ago, in my time at secondary school, I was a victim to bullying, there were a few people, and If they saw me around, they'd follow me around town, even wait for me outside my house, it was the same month I lost my father to cancer, It really felt unbearable, so no, sometimes you can't escape it, bullying can affect you, and If there's a few people involved, I'm pretty sure that tactic wouldn't work, and if you were in that situation, you wouldn't. Sure, I didn't go to the extreme of suicide, but for some people, that may seem like the last resort to them, it can emotionally affect people, make them feel worthless. Sure, every kid get's picked on, but I gotta be honest, I think with more modern day developments, it's getting worse, people are finding new ways to pick on people, and different ways of persisting.
You may think it's silly, but, what about people who's details are leaked on the internet, and are constantly harassed by different people who access these details, can you avoid it then? Your not exactly going to have the money to move house.

Back on topic, Cyberbullying is quite a big problem nowadays, it's a very real thing, and escaping? I don't think so, you can say whatever you like, but most of our lives revolve around the internet nowadays, using social network sites to organize things, emailing for transferring work etc. I don't think a movie will do anything, I fail too see many people waiting too see this, because they will probably over dramatize different situations, and make it almost unwatchable.

actually yeah, maybe cause i dont throw my personal info around willy nilly and i give it to responsible people. Still, people going out of their way to insult me online wouldnt bother me, it be kinda funny actually.

And considering the fact so many cases of bullying involving "friends" betraying the victim, what gives you the right to feel superior? All it takes is one "close friend" thinking you're a loser all of a sudden.

There is a million ways someone in a high school can get someone else's number or facebook details.

In addition to the very basic and important factors that Hobhodo mentioned, punching out your tormentor is not an option in the US. They have zero tolerance policies on violence, which are enforced -- meaning, even if it's completely in self defense, one will get punished for fighting. Often, it even goes beyond the school -- high school students can and will get in legal trouble for having a fist fight. The US is a pretty terrible place to get bullied, and a great place to be a bully.

Saw that commercial too. I like how people think that cyberbullies are all anonymous, douche bags who maliciously attack random teenage girls. Most of the time, they know the victims in real life and just use the interwebs as another way to bother them. And anyways, if a random person tells you you're fat on the internet, doesn't matter. Get on with your life.

anyway the movie was hilarious.

If they don't make at least one person commit suicide in that movie, it's not really an accurate representation. Maybe even by drug overdose?

He told u he was hardcore, Anon.
