Danny was in a blank-white plane, injured, and with nowhere yet everywhere to go. He looked behind him and noticed in the distant horizon, the plane was vanishing. Soon, it would reach Danny and take him to a place he'd rather not go. He had no choice but to keep on moving, something that bothered him. He set off at a slow pace, tired and numb from the things he experienced. Every time he had a breather, he woke up to find himself in a bizarre and uncomfortable situation. He felt like Dr.Jekyll, whom lost control of his body from time to time. The blood, however, wasn't a Mr. Hyde. It wasn't feral, mindless. It was cold, chaotic yet calculating. And now Danny was trapped in his own head, forced into another fight. Fight or flight, yeah right.

After a while Danny looked behind him again and noticed that he was on the edge. Beyond him was darkness, a vacuum for the soul. He felt a chill in his body after staring too long and returned to his walk.
The white turned pale, eventually being a shade of light beige. Grains of sand manifested under Danny's foot, and each step was now announced by a soft crunch. Flora started to manifest too, the odd tree and cactus appearing here and there. It all felt too real. Just when Danny thought it couldn't become anymore life-like, the plane produced its own sun. It was bright enough to illuminate the land but dim enough to stare at. Consequently, the plane turned colder. Danny began to shiver and rubbed his arms with his hands. Not satisfied by the warmth it provided, Danny walked at a faster pace. Soon, he no longer paid any attention to the desert and simply looked forwards. He didn't even notice the Sun coming down and a bright, full Moon appearing in its place. It was the ever watchful eye, seeing everything in its strange world.

When morning came, Danny was no more tired than he was before. His eyes felt like they had bags underneath them but aside from that, Danny still felt he was in good condition to continue his trek across the endless desert-sea.
It was surprising, how he was beginning to feel good about his situation. The desert was relaxing, and this only further nourished him. He felt no immediate need to see what was beyond, in fact, he wanted to stay still so he could properly enjoy the view, be in the moment for once. His lifestyle demanded him to do be doing everything and anything all the time. His hectic life never forced him into being organised. As a matter of fact, it was slowly eating away at him; his inane attitude towards work. Perhaps his drafting into D.I.C.E. was a life-saver, of sorts. A blessing in disguise, a hidden miracle. Of course it was hard to truly believe it considering the situation he was in right now. But if he hadn't joined D.I.C.E. and fallen victim to a parasitic blood-demon, would he have ever pondered this? Or would I have stagnated into the history of Detroit, like all the other police before me? He was already replaced; a youthful hotshot had been eyeing his position for months.

Would D.I.C.E remember him? The thought of being forgotten was disturbing. Maybe that was why people feared death.

"No attacking the guy or sabotage, just finding the target?"

"Exactly that. It might evolve into something more depending on what needs to be done. But that's the extent of it right now.

"I know where. I was here before."

"Good. Alright then. Any other questions from you two before I send you off?"

"Yeah, I'm a guy. What do you need to talk about?"

"It's this pain in the ass thing we have going on. A mission. One of my people is going on an investigation and we need someone who's really good at...let's just say backing someone up. Are you interested? If you're not doing anything that is"

"The moments when you can share your experiences with others are often the best times. As for dessert? Why not, after all it is a special occasion; but let us wait for a while first. Say how about since I have told you a story, it is your turn now Garath. Go on Garath, surely in your lifetime, you managed to have at at least an experience or two worthy of a story." Isabelle said with a suggestive wink as she poured out another glass of wine for the pair of them.

Garath was surprised by this, he hadn't expected Isabelle to ask him about such a thing, he felt like he was blushing a little, and momentarily considered using illusions to cover it up and then decided against it. He tried to think of a good story along the lines of what Isabelle was implying, he had never been asked to tell such a story before, and he tried to think of one that would work.

Definitely from before DICE, wouldn't want to bring up anyone she knows, something unusual perhaps? I have a few of those, probably should leave most of it up to her imagination, this sort of story probably works better that way, besides we're in a public place.

"Well that is an unusual request, but I suppose I might have an interesting experience or two I can talk about, I won't go into too many details as I still don't remember all of them myself, but I think that might make the story more interesting anyways," he said, adjusting his tie a little and taking a drink of wine before he started, "So it started when I did a show in Vegas, had my name up in lights outside the casino I was performing at and everything, needless to say I was looking forward to the good time the city promised, so I did the show, nothing too unusual there, but after the show I decided to start my night off with a little drinking, maybe some gambling, I was over at the bar drinking more than I should have been, when I was approached by this beuatiful young woman looking for a good time just like me, can't even remember her name, but the next thing I knew I woke up in her room with faint memories of well, I'm sure you can imagine, my memories ended about when she got out the whip, after that all I can recall is a faint sense that it was not as unpleasant as I would have assumed while sober, at any rate I woke up with some large red marks in various places, wearing some rather unusual attire, and she was lying next to me smoking a cigarette, I think she was ready for round two, or whatever number we were up to, but that was about when her dad broke in, see he owned the casino and was a little overprotective of his daughter so I ended up thrown into the street still wearing mostly the aforementioned unmentionable attire, and with nothing to show for my work except some vaguely pleasurable memories and a headache."

He paused to catch his breath after finishing the story, he doubted it was exactly what Isabelle had wanted but he thought it was at least entertaining if nothing else, he finished the glass of wine she had poured for him and then looked at her, "Sorry if it wasn't quite what you were expecting, I don't usually get asked to tell that sort of story, but I hope you at least found it interesting," he said, then he glanced around for the dessert menu, "So do you still feel like some dessert or would you rather we skip that and head back to base?"

Isabelle listened to Garath's story, finding it a mixture of confusing, amusing, and rather strange when it got down to some of the more darker details. Garath then paused to catch for breath, and downed the glass of wine without a second thought. "Sorry if it wasn't quite what you were expecting, I don't usually get asked to tell that sort of story, but I hope you at least found it interesting." He then glanced around for the dessert menu. "So do you still feel like some dessert or would you rather we skip that and head back to base?" Isabelle pushed the glass of wine away after drinking some of it, then shivered slightly as the thoughts of the story passed through my mind.

"Yes, some dessert would be nice thank you; might help me take my mind off that story, no offence Garath. Never would of guessed you were that type of person, then again in a place like the City of Sin, stories like that are common; not that I've been to Las Vegas myself, not my kind of place personally." Isabelle remarked, not trying to sound offensive or insulting in anyway as she drank a glass of water to clear her palette. She then looked through an extra dessert menu.

"Anything take your fancy?" Isabelle asked.

Garath laughed, "Yeah after that I decided it really wasn't my kind of place either, that was years ago, I wasn't quite the same person I am now," he said.

"Anything take your fancy?"

"How about the cheesecake," he said after glancing through the menu, he had no idea what sort of dessert Isabelle liked, but the cheesecake looked good, then again so did the chocolate cake, he poured himself a glass of water, he figured that if that was the story he'd chosen he'd probably had enough to drink.

"Good. Alright then. Any other questions from you two before I send you off?"
Jean silently shook his head, and stood, then looked expectantly at Aaron.
"I will wait outside." he said slowly, then went and stood outside the door. He expected Aaron to argue with the woman about going on such a mission, without having to do it in front of Jean.
He sighed, but understood Aaron's annoyance. He would likely feel the same way.

Garath laughed. "Yeah after that I decided it really wasn't my kind of place either, that was years ago, I wasn't quite the same person I am now." He then had another look at the dessert menu, obviously fancying several of the choices. "How about the cheesecake?"

"Hmm, it does sound delicious. I was thinking more of the chocolate fudge brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top." Isabelle said, subtly licking her lips as it reminded her of when she was younger, and the cakes that her mother made. What wasn't subtle was the blush on her cheeks, but she cooled down after a glass of water.

"You know Garath, tonight has been rather enjoyable, thank you."

"We'll get that then," Garath said, glancing about for the waiter so he could place the order.

"You know Garath, tonight has been rather enjoyable, thank you."

He smiled, "I'm glad to hear that, maybe we can do this again sometime," he said, finally locating the waiter, who was on his way to collect their empty plates.

Byron shrugged, being as indifferent as he possibly could. "Sure, the only other thing I've got to do is to concoct super-soldier drugs for you fellows, and that can always wait. Besides," he cracked his hands in anticipation and emphasis, "I haven't broken anything alive in a while, and the lab's starting to get uncomfortably familiar. I'll go with you."

Aaron Pertition

"I will wait outside."

"Okay Jean, I'll be there in a second." Aaron closed the folder and turned to Genna, shaking her hand in the process. "Thank you for the mission, Genna, and we'll get on it right away." He left her office with a somewhat cheerful air, being less of a grump than when he walked in. After he closed the door, he walked over to Jean and greeted him. "Well, Jean, let's see where we're going." Aaron pulled out the mission briefing and flipped to the page that summarized their mission.

I'm already dead, so why not enjoy this?
I'm comfortable here, I don't see why I should escape.
I think I do, yeah.
Immediately the world began to crumble. The sand sank into a whirlpool, dragging the plants and occasional rock here and there. Soon, it came to Danny and engulfed him in the darkness. Millions of grains surrounded him and the sun disappeared from his sight. Although the pressure should have turned Danny into a pancake, he only felt small pressure, the kind someone was exposed to when a metre underwater. In total darkness and with nothing to do, Danny wondered if this was the final stage of bliss. To turn into a mummy, buried underneath the ground with a smile on his face.

Peace would only last for so long as Danny found out, the hard way.
Truly, this was the epitome of killing someone with kindness. Numbing them with joy until they were too numb to comprehend real feelings, real emotions. The blood knew Danny would try and resist and overcome whatever challenges it threw at him. Pain, was not going to be the downfall of Danny. It was an overdose of serenity, something Danny needed but like everything, it had to be kept in check. It was clever, a less subtle tactic that had unfortunately been rushed. For as soon as Danny realized what he was trying to do, he began digging. Of course as soon as the blood knew Danny knew, he pushed Danny back so he made no real progress. Danny would not become tired in this world, he couldn't. The blood had all the time in the world, and until it found a quick solution it would not have complete control over its host.

"Determination, you lack none and have too many."

Boring. Eliezer had expected something more interesting, something more flashy after the mystery man's abrupt ultimatum, but nothing had happened, not even a twitch. If he was dead all he had accomplished was wasting Eliezer's time, what a drama queen. However he had lost such a large of blood, enough to kill a normal human, and more was still leaking out from him. Something was keeping him alive, but what was the source? Was it magical, demonic or angelic? Only one way to find out.

Eliezer walked over to the cabinet where the drugs were kept and found what he was looking for - adrenaline.

"Wakey, wakey, rise and shine"

He injected the mystery man with the syringe, curious as to what he would find out when he awake.

"I haven't broken anything alive in a while, and the lab's starting to get uncomfortably familiar. I'll go with you."

"Excellent. Glad I've got you along," he said with a hint joy in his voice. "Right this way"

Zhang didn't bother waiting for the lift and lead Byron up the stairs to the garage. He took out a set of keys and pressed the unlock button. A black 2-door not too far away from them lit up, and Zhang got in the driver's seat. After going through all the monotony of getting everything cleared, he drive through a portal. They ended up in a populated area around an old street. No one seemed to give the car appearing out of nowhere any mind, and Zhang didn't look as if he minded the people being their.

After a few checks on the GPS, Zhang drove Byron down the road that lead to the huge church near the center of the city.

"I'm glad to hear that, maybe we can do this again sometime." Garath said after locating the waiter, who was on his way to collect their empty plates.

"I would be up for it, though it does kind of depend on the next instance where the both of us aren't doing anything." Isabelle remarked, though it kind of sounded like she was stating the obvious. She then took a moment to look and around the restaurant, noticing that the place was almost full.

"So, what do you think of the restaurant, has it been a pleasant experience for you?"

"So, what do you think of the restaurant, has it been a pleasant experience for you?"

"I think I'll have to come here again if I get the opportunity," Garath said, the waiter reached them and he ordered their dessert, then turned back towards Isabelle, "The service and the food were both great, I'm glad you chose this place."

He sat back and looked around, before looking back at Isabelle, "Of course I'm sure you've got plenty of interesting places for us to go in the future, provided we get the chance," he said, smiling.

"The service and the food were both great, I'm glad you chose this place." Isabelle smiled after hearing that, it felt good. In fact, this evening out was great.

"Well, I'm glad that it has left a good impression on you; this place is certainly better then the last time I came here, perhaps its just the company I'm with on this occasion. They do say a meal out is better when in the company of others." Isabelle remarked, hinting at Garath.

"Of course I'm sure you've got plenty of interesting places for us to go in the future, provided we get the chance." Garath said, smiling.

"I'm sure I can think of one or two places that might suit the occasion. Who knows what may happen in the future."

"Well I am looking forward to seeing them," Garath said, their waiter soon returned with the dessert as well as the bill, Garath got out his wallet and paid, he briefly considered simply using an illusion to make smaller bills look like larger ones, but decided against it, he had plenty of money for the dinner.

He thanked their waiter and turned back to Isabelle and the dessert, he let her take the first bite, then took one for himself, he thought it was quite good.

"What do you think of the dessert?" he asked, "I think you chose well myself."

Mission File...
Jean sighed. He'd never like disappearances on the newspaper. They almost always had bad endings. Not a single one he had worked on had turned out happily. Of course, he rarely got assigned to happy stories.
He sighed again.

"Let us go, then. I need a pistol." he said, and turned and headed for the armory with long, easy strides.

He couldn't shoot to save his life- literally- but his editor had always insisted he carry a pistol. After over a decade carrying one, he never felt safe without it. An H&K USP Compact. He had fired a grand total of two bullets outside of training, and neither had hit. He hadn't wanted them to hit, of course. He abhorred violence. He just needed to intimidate people occasionally. And he felt safer with a pistol at his side.

The blood had been in the parasite business for generations and consequently it mastered the ability to warp time and space. It had all of eternity to break its host, while only milliseconds would pass in real life. Once inside, there was no distinguishing real time, real space or even real life. It was all a fantasy, and eventually that fantasy became reality. The question "is this the real life?" became "this is the real life." The blood was always learning, and with Danny it learnt that simple pain would not sway some people. It took a different approach, and almost found success if it wasn't for its desire to see Danny to break and shatter into a million pieces inside his own mind. All that would be left of Danny was a single drop of blood. A drop of blood that contained everything about him that was locked away in the dark side of his mind as an observer. Seeing himself do horrendous things and being unable to stop himself. When the blood tired of Danny, it would further lock him away.

All he could do was exist in a world of red as a part of the blood. He would be doomed to a fate worse than death, to live for all of eternity.
Once Danny was further locked away, he would start the slow and agonizing process of becoming one with the blood. Fragments of his mind would join the blood, building upon the blood's wealth of personalities it stole and consumed. The truth was, the blood was an amalgamation of hundreds of hosts. Its current personality was the mix of mainly two hosts, a suave, talkative demon and a corrupt priest of chaos. Its origin is unknown. Despite having masses of minds stored away, the blood rarely let them out and wonder. By wonder, the blood meant explore its ultimate fantasy. The blood never imagined the heaven he provided could be the downfall of a potential host. The more you know, it chuckled.

Danny's demise was coming, and after the blood was done with its body -relative to its long life-span it wouldn't take very long- he would be stuck in a comfortable Oblivion.
With this in mind, the blood let the sand flow at a faster rate. Danny was now sinking into another whirlpool, one that had originated deep below. He could feel the flow, but wasn't being dragged in yet. He desperately grabbed onto the falling sand to no avail. Millions of grains were sliding past Danny, down his clothes and into his body. He turned to his arms and noticed the burns were gone. He would have stared for longer if he hadn't suddenly entered a falling motion. Even now, he tried to hold onto the sand. Above him was the sun, in all its glory and light. Beneath was the abyss, in all its horror and darkness. As long as he could look up, he did not mind. The sensation itself was comfortable anyway. Was this free-falling?

Whatever it was it felt good, like paradise.
Was this the final? The end? The drawing of the curtain to my life? Am I doomed to stay here forever, falling from paradise into the great abyss but never quite being in either? It was torture; it was the longest wait. I had accepted my fate, I had even enjoyed it. But I never meant to stay here forever, I only wanted to enjoy the moment while it lasted. A pleasure experienced for eternity in oblivion moved quickly from paradise into hell. It would take a snap of the mind, one small pessimistic thought that would leave the fortress that was my mind in ruins. At this point, there is nothing I can do. I would rather be happy in a vegetative state than become insane here.

I am Danny Trayne, and I think I will stay he-
Danny jumped. He looked down at his arms to see them still in their previous condition, burned to the muscle. He winced as the pain returned and all the other feelings of being alive. Truly alive, in the real world. He had returned, but how? As his vision returned from a blur, he noticed the man he talked to earlier. He didn't feel any different, and he could move his body which meant he hadn't lost. But once again, how? He clenched his fists as a surge of pain went through his arms, even greater than before. A stream of blood expunged itself from Danny, spraying into the walls and unfortunately on the man's suit. Danny uncontrollably twitched, unable to stop himself from staying still due to the immense torrent of blood. Danny released his grip after the bleeding stopped. He felt cleaner, but something was still bugging him. As far as he knew, the blood was all gone. After all, it was on the wall.

Danny then yelled "man and his slave!" to the man and fell from the table onto the floor. He was free, and despite his injuries, Danny gapped the scene. He didn't want to be in the same room, let alone the same place, as the blood. He soon found out, however, it wasn't going to be easy as the door was locked. While Danny tried to open it, the blood came together and formed a stick-like figure. It resembled a human, albeit a very thing and liquid-y human. Despite being a single figure, the blood writhed and wriggled and never stayed still. All along the body various parts of the blood extended itself out like tendrils and tentacles, and like blood in a body it moved around in a cyclic manner. Its 'head' turned to Danny and it hissed, forming and opening a mouth, "what did you do to meeee?" The voice that shrilled at Danny did not resemble anything like the blood before. This was undoubtedly the blood at its purest form.

After closing its mouth, it formed an axe with its arm and slashed at Danny. Even though it wasn't going to hurt, he assumed anyway, contact would result in it trying to take Danny over again. That was the last thing Danny wanted to happen and so he lifted himself up and began running around the medical bay, screaming 'security!' like a little girl.

The mystery man awoke and to Eliezer's annoyance he had sprayed blood all over his new and suit he was just a normal man, useless. However the blood like creature that had ejected itself from the man's veins was a different story; nothing so hideous could be angelic, those conceited angels prided themselves on the so called beauty they created, that only left two options. The man was starting to agitate him though, running around the room like a headless chicken shouting for security. He was getting at the end of his tether, he got out the key to the door and swiftly opened it.

"Now, would you shut up, I'm trying to think" he shouted at the man, hoping he would leave.

As soon as the door unlocked, Danny jumped at its general direction. He fell, but the pain he felt was incomparable to the things the blood would subject him to if he was caught again. He exited the room but realized that it could take the man as a host-age. Danny grabbed the man and pulled him out with him, dodging a spray of blood the blood-figure threw in Danny's general direction. It hit the wall, screamed and threw itself again to Danny. This time, it hit Danny's chest and almost winded him. After recovering from the impact, it turned into something that could only be described as a mad scientist's rendition of a spider. Danny then grabbed it only for it to slip out and crawl towards his face.

Danny continued to scream for help.
