My aunt used to send me packages of these every Easter while my uncle was serving at the USAF base in Germany. He's since retired, so I haven't had these in YEARS.

I had never heard of these before.

OT: I suppose we could count the number of people who expressed the above sentiment and get a rough idea of the number of Americans watching this...

Still think its funny that these are banned in the US since it's actually often not so easy to open the yellow capsule and it'll be really difficult to choke this one.

That's one way to get the toy out of the Kinder egg.

I love Kinder eggs. Tasty And gives me something to fiddle with in my free time.

You have hinges on your kinder eggs?!!? Here in blighty we have to wrestle them open with a combination of teeth and upper body strength!

Also: more chocolate smashing! That was cool!
Actually in Blighty they've been like that a couple of years now - my little sister still gets them sometimes and they're all easy-open nowadays.
I do remember the old ones though back in the day, always had to use teeth to get them open. Seem to remember not really liking the chocolate all that much either - white chocolate never has been my thing. Just the tiny little toy that you built yourself from those little parts - used to love doing that!

Also, where's the further testing? I want to see that capsule getting dropped!

From the sound it made when it hit, it sounds like the toy might have been one of those fly-wheel toys. They always make the fly-wheel out of metal.

I was at Costco the other day, and saw boxes of them there. It was tempting, but it wasn't really worth the spike in my blood sugar just to keep maybe one out of ten of the toys. My cats would have enjoyed the influx of cat toys, however; ball up the foil from the egg, drop it in the empty capsule, close the capsule, and instant cat toy. Almost all of which wind up under the couch within minutes. The rest get confiscated after a very early morning game of bounce 'em off the baseboards.

But yeah, I too am curious as to what the surprise was.

I was surprised that the shell didn't break open. I was really surprised to find out that they are illegal in the States!

That is a good drop but it left me wondering 'what is a Kinder Egg? What is that inside of it?'
Time for some research!
some good olde research as informed me that they have never sold them in the states because there is a toy in the middle of something that was edible.
you weird americans!
I live in america, and I remember them.

My caretaker was from Austria, so he had a stash.

I was totally surprised at the toy inside, as I'd never heard of these! I was expecting creme or nougat, like a Cadbury egg.
