So apparently Steven Moffat has decide that the Daleks have had enough of a beating and planning on leaving them out for a while because "They have been defeated by the Doctor about 400 times. Surely they see the Tardis approaching, say, 'Oh. It's him again' - and trudge away"

so what are your opinions on this. For me I welcome it because for me they don't strike fear any more now that they are enemy's like The Silence and Weeping Angels.

I see no problem with this. It'll be all the better when they return. Then again, I'm a bigger fan of the stand-alone episodes than I am of the story-arcs and convoluted continuity. Don't Blink and The Empty Child were beyond compare..

Well its a good move, because the daleks have been used a lot lately and a good thing can be ruined if you have a lot of it, and Steve Moffat obviously gets this so if you remove the daleks from the picture for a while it allows them to come back in a glorious fashion later down the line.

I find them much more comical than I do scary now, really, and as I only really started with the new series I don't have any real nostalgic attachment to them. Let 'em retire in peace, I say.

I'm with you on this. I thought Turn Left, from (new) series 4 was particularly harrowing, especially with the state of Britain after London exploded.

If this is true thank all that is holy. I have been annoyed with them bringing back the Daleks since they brought them back the second time (out of the reboot).
Any source on this information by the way?

I agree that it's reasonable to leave them out since they're getting too cliche in the series but in their last appearance a new group of daleks appeared so thats basically a big ol' cliffhanger until they make a comeback.

I think it is good that the Daleks won't be used for a while. Out of the four series that Russel T Davies ran there was only one where the Daleks were not the villains of the finale (though they were kind of joint villains with the Cybermen in Series 2)

The problem with the Daleks coming back so much is that it never does the same thing with the Time Lords. They all got killed by the Doctor, but all the Time Lords have been able to do is try and teleport to Earth once. The Daleks rebuilt their entire empire about four times.
Tell you the truth, I'd much rather see some Time Lords running around, using their emergency temporal shifts whenever things get interesting.

I don't think it's the best decision, the Daleks might not be "scary" any more in this world of body-horror and gore being fairly commonplace but they were still a main (if not the main) force in the time-war. Also lest we forget the best horror is what you don't see (which is why the angels work) not what is paraded in front of you.

Daleks have a lot of potential to be a force behind the scenes rather than an overt threat. I also feel that the newer series haven't handled them brilliantly, that or we were spoiled with the implacable unstoppable solo killing machine in Dalek. The thought of being trapped with just that one getting loose is infinitely more scary than a fleet of millions of them somewhere over head.

I'm ok with the Daleks taking a break. Since their appearance early in season 5 ended with them starting to rebuild as powerful as they ever were, it makes sense to just focus on the Silence and other things that are happening for now, and dedicate as much time as is needed to properly develop the Daleks as a new and greater threat later on.

This will mean a longer time for them to think of a way for the one that always survives to make millions more somehow, I think the cybermen are better enemies anyway.

The less they're used, the more epic it will be when they do get used.

This will probably be a good idea in the long run.

I was a bit iffy after the Churchill episode where they introduced new colourful daleks. Though it may have been that I just got used to the old style... Still, a good idea, put them away for a while, make it more surprising when they come back.

A break from the Daleks? About bloody time!

Quite frankly, I think that they've been overused in the new series. It seems like they appeared more times in the first four years of the new series than in the entire classic run of Doctor Who.

I did get the feeling that they were quickly running out of contrived reasons to bring them back.

I swear each time they have appeared in the new Dr Who's they have always been "the last of their kind". They seem to be using a different definition of "last" from me.
